Was talking on another forum about stuff we'd dug up in the garden, thought i'd spill it over here :)

    DSCI0054.JPG

clay beads, could be decorative or loom weights? Clay marbles, Normal marble.

Musket ball, bone toothbrush handle, and some mesolithic flint blades.

What have you lot dug up in the garden? :)

There was a Roman encampment less than a mile from here - ('they' have aerial pictures), and I have dug up quite a lot of roman artifacts including many coins. There was also a military presence back in the war time and I`ve found bits and bobs -like buttons and badges. Musket balls aplenty over the years, and quite a few clay pipes - or fragments of these. Two old flat irons, several buckles, including one silver shoe buckle......
Mates of mine who used to work at the Kent coal face found all kinds of interesting stuff down t`pit!!!! ........and Paddy down the road found a gold stater with his metal detector.

Stone stones stones and stones:rolleyespink: as I may have mentioned a few times on here already! I am STILL at it clearing where I want to return a bit of our land to field. I now have a pile which is beginning the resemble The Giant Pyramid of Giza. I wonder if in a couple of hundred years people might think my pyramid had special religious significance and flock from miles around to wonder at its "magnificence":)

It's already at an interesting angle. New stones are being added to the pile gingerly. My pyramid building isn't quite of the standards of The Egyptians. I'll be lucky if mine lasts a year far less 1000s. :ideaIPB:Perhaps I could advertise it as a solution to an annoying other half. I'm sure with a gentle push in the right direction the whole lot could come cascading down and dispatch any poor s.d who just happened to be close to it:)

When we (dad and I) dug over my back lawn we found a frying pan, a spatula, various cutlery, empty cans of fosters and half a sofa complete with coins.. I think the previous occupants enjoyed cooking/eating outside?

We used to own a 400 year old cottage and found loads of clay pipes, shoe buckles, coins and a lovely small bell which we were told would have been used on a collar on a goat! Plus loads and loads of bottles with the marble in top.

Various crisp packets, plastic bags, disintegrated plastic bags, plastic bottle lids, nails, fence post wrappers, ringpulls and stones. Think the last people who lived here didn't own bin bags and just threw the rubbish in the garden! :(
