I have a flowering cherry Tree which has two trunks, it was in the garden when we moved into the house some years ago. I want to cut one of the trunks off to get more light in the area. Question is do I seal after cutting it or leave it to nature to heal.

I think it's still recommended to seal cherry and plum trees. I always do it. :dbgrtmb:

Do not be tempted to do this now. Wait until late winter, when the tree is dormant. Then cut away to your hearts content, and there is no need to seal.

I'm only talking about fruit trees but over all the years that I've dealt with them I've come to the conclusion that a light prune (plums and cherries) immediately after fruiting doesn't need sealing but heavy pruning does.

With the apples and pears we never seal.

This is from 44 years of dealing with at least a couple of dozen fruit trees. We heavily pruned a black plum two years ago and sealed the cuts as they were between 2" and 8" across.

For me no seal. And prune only in summer so wouldnt prune now
It must be confusing though and the accepted "wisdom" seems to change from time to time. Logically, for me, summer pruning and naturally quick healing open wounds :)
