Before I get into the meat of my query, let me be clear that I am no prude, nor do I judge anyone and indeed fully support anyone's rights to be themselves. An individual's personality is the only thing that matters.

Now, I am genuinely confused about one of the acronyms that many, many people class themselves as being part of the group - - and I am mostly confused as it seems that this acronym just keeps getting longer! I am referring to what I first identify as LGB (Lesbian, Gay & Bi-Sexual) - - dead easy.

Then, someone decided that it should have a T added - which I presume to be for Trans-sexual. More recently, I saw a Q added - - what that one refers to is beyond me

And today, on the BBC News website, on this article, I see some bright spark has decided to add an 'I' to the end! Again, I have no earthly idea what this could refer to?

Honestly, I am not taking the Michael, I genuinely do not know, and would be grateful if someone could enlighten me.

I am starting to wonder if these letters are similar to those that are found in car brochures - the more letters, the higher the bill, and more leather?

Meanwhile, I am trying to work out a sensible acronym that might suit others, so we can all have letters to group ourselves under - so far, I have managed to get the following:

    P - Person
    H - Human
    O - Ordinary
    N - Non-Judgemental
    E - Empathetic
    S - Semi-Alcoholic
    E - Enigmatic
    X - X-Rated (occasionally, in private)

The I is Inter-sex. On government/ local council based websites , if you fill a form in there are now about six options for sex . For me it used to be Saturday night if I was lucky

Q is for queer and some people now add an A for asexual. When I first heard LGBT I did think of a well-known sandwich filling.
I also understand that there are no longer discrete genders but a gender spectrum and you can position yourself where you like and move as suits; throw in the sexuality spectrum and there yiu are.
I think the letter for me is G for Gardener.

Thanks :) Although, what exactly is Inter-sex? Inter-course, I am reasonably familiar with ;), but I assume that it isn't the same? And I must admit that on forms, for me the answer would have been 'Yes please'

Oooh, now I thought the Q-word was frowned upon? That, and the P-word?

A 'gender spectrum' - my goodness, no wonder this world is in a mess!
