      Ouchie @NigelJ :yikes:

      So sorry to hear about that; not only the pain and shock of the actual incident, but the fact it took such an age to cross the distance just to get some help. :grphg:

      Speedy healing vibes winging their way to you :blue thumb:

          Have you considered having a "Garden" mobile phone? One just for emergencies?

            Sorry to hear that Nigel (no pun intended), sounds pretty painful to me! Get lots of rest & take a trip to Elberry Cove, love that part of the country :)

              Sorry this happened Nigel, hope it heals up ok, will you have deafness in that ear in the future?

              I just hope this doesn't get out, otherwise "elf a safety" will stipulate that we should all wear ear defenders while digging.

                @pete
                Hopefully not, won't really know until a hearing test in 4 to 6 weeks time.
                M I've had my ear bent on that very topic today.

                  Oh dear, that poor ear! :oops: As if being javelined by wire wasn't bad enough, you then have it bent! :heehee:

                  You have to admit, it is a valid point ... I'm still a little upset at the thought of you desperately trying to get to a phone when you were feeling pain, nausea and, I'm guessing, so alone! If having your ear bent means you are prepared for any eventuality in the future ... it is a very *small* price to pay ;)

                      Glad to hear you're improving Nigel, :) such a nasty accident. As gardeners we tend not to think about unusual accidents like this, we protect ourselves from one thing but are still susceptible to many others.

                        For people living in the countryside and when there is a farm hedgetrimer about, becarefull if you are out and about in the garden or any where else,

                        I read about a woman in her own garden when she was hit by something, which turned out to be some bard wire which was picked up by a farm hedgetrimer not to far away, the bits went into her neck and arm, the farmer was fined (i Think) £200,000
                        Not sure if it's true as where i read it is a bit iffy

                          Should be fine, a small perforation "hole" will heal over, I only have one ear drum, had a growth in my ear canal which decimated my inner ear, when flying if the descent is too steep I get a perforation in my remaining ear, heals over quite quickly, but for a few days I am bu££$%ed.
