    Hello,

I need help trying to find a plant. I would like a climber for one of my fences that doesnt receieve any day light, it must therefore suit wet ground and perhaps even boggy in wetter months. The soil in our garden is clay.

The view from our kitchen window looks right onto the shaded part of the garden with this fence so would be nice to brighten it up!

Thanks for any recommendations in advance.

Ivy will be good there, not any old Ivy tho, you can get yellow and white edged, Lollipop knows better than me about the names of Ivy, she will help you out, Yard Art looks good, if your interested Ill put pics up for you, and Lights, why not add some lighting there...

Hydrangea petiolaris its the climbing form of the hydrangea family. It is know for growing in a shady spot, and wouldn't mind wet feet. The only draw back could be the lack of winter interest. I'm sure that a Jasmine nudiflorum would work with it.

Enrich the soil with plenty of organic matter before you plant, and perhaps some gravel to aid with the drainage, and I don't see you'll have any problems.

    Hope this helps!

Ivy without a doubt. There are so many varieties to chose from. I have a similar problem area - view from the back door onto patio and a bare fence, so I planted a lovely varigated ivy in white and green, with big leaves to grow up the fence. I've also put a honeysuckle nearby, although they need a bit more light....

I have Hydrangea petiolaris on my fence which gets very little sunlight and a nice hosta in front of it. They look lovely most of the year, its just december - feb when the hydrangea looks a bit ropeya nd the hosta vanishes if its particularly cold. The rest of the time they look fab!

Thanks for your advice I took a look at these two and decided to go for them. I brought them today and have been digging today!

Would you recommend they are planted side by side?
