Have no idea what the weather will do or when it will rain. No matter wont be doing any gardening but I have potted up a couple of hundred anemone blanda (has to be blue; the other colours lack the statement factor!)
Hope everyone has a good weekend :)

I've been sneaking a few cuttings of attractive-looking ivies while out walking the dog! Not from people's gardens you understand but where I see them tumbling over walls and fences, which is common enough at this time of the year. I could do with a few more for the 'wild' bank at the end of the garden and was especially pleased to find a small-leaved one which looks very like the 'Spetchley' which got massacred when the landscapers were cutting the bank back last year.

I don't do cuttings. That's the province of the cuttings department (Mrs Shiney). She tends to only take cuttings of perennials and shrubs (about 1,000 each year) plus splitting lots of plants as well as potting up bulbs and tubers (I don't really understand all these planty type words but it sounds good :heehee:).

As an aside I have also in August sown my hardy cyclamen seeds which have just started to sprout so pleased with those although I seem to be getting a little inundated with them now:biggrin:

I have two lots of fuschia cuttings on the go but only took one photo.I had them and n the greenhouse but it is a bit too cold down there and I don’t want them dropping their leaves and going dormant as I need a good root system so they are now in a nice warm room:biggrin:

@BeeHappy I dare not take any more cuttings as the plants are now getting old wood so have found in the past I have to take the fuschia cuttings earlier in the year when the wood is nice and green:biggrin:

Hi @BeeHappy I actually take the seed from my hardy Cyclamen Coum seed pods that they set a year after they have been pollinated by bees the previous September which is when they usually flower.

After the bees have done their work the flower petals die off and the pod swells over the months and eventually the flower stem coils down to the ground and gradually the seed pod opens when they are ripe and inside there are all the little orangey brown seeds.I then cut off the stem and as the seeds are sticky I put them into a plastic butter container add a small drop of washing up liquid then add water and swish them around.I usually leave them overnight and the next day I drain out the water and then take them down to the greenhouse where I sow them in either small seed trays or other small containers then I cover them with compost and put them onto my staging.

Those in the photos were sown in August and it is usually three to four weeks later before they start to sprout depending on the temperature in the greenhouse.I will often leave them in the seed tray to grow on watering them so that they don’t dry out rather than let them go dormant.By the following September the leaf on each plant has a small round corm with roots attached which I prick out into more seed trays or shallow containers and I either grow them on in the greenhouse or I stand them outside so they can grow on.

By year two or three the plants are big enough to prick out into three inch pots as they will have bigger leaves by then and will often flower in the September of their second year:smile:

This has been trial and error and learning how to grow them through reading about them on different websites I found on Google:biggrin:

PS,If I remember I will take some photos tomorrow of some of my bigger plants all grown by me from seed:biggrin:
