IMG_0979.JPG It was a gorgeous day yesterday so took a few photos of the garden as it is always enhanced with sun and blue skies which are not always present unfortunately!
The 1st photo is of Lobelia Tupa kindly sent to me by @JWK. I am always on the look out for late flowering herbaceous, unfortunately many are not hardy enough to survive where I live. This Lobelia is still in a pot and I intend to keep it in my unseated greenhouse this winter and the risk planting it out next Spring now it has established well in the pot.:fingers crossed: It will flourish.

It is far tougher than it is given credit for. But it is a prairie plant so it prefers free draining soil and life on the drier side.
I had a huge one at my old house and I did use to mulch it with small conifer branches and needles. Not sure if it was necassary but it grew huge and be in bloom by late June.
My top tip is not to cut it back until the spring as the stems are hollow.

Many thanks @longk. Sounds like as so often is the case it's not temperature but winter wet which certain plants can't tolerate. I have an area behind my large green house which is slightly sloped and protected from the worst weather, I grow a few large flowered Penstemons here which are not the most robust so intend to plant the Tupa here as well . Will take you advice and not cut back until the Spring. There are certain other herbaceous I leave cutting back too for protection really.

Hi Shiney, it's about bang on time. They can start in Sept and go on till Nov.
They're a distant relation of the Winter/Spring Snowdrops and come from Greece.

I have a Lobelia Tupa planted outside, its sprawling around now with the wind and rain. Winter's have been relatively warm last few but for the odd cold snap, I piled some woodchip / leafs on top of my Lobelia to help protect it.

2 of my next summer plants have started to bud.

The geum is doing great considering its only half a plant. The other doesn"t look quite so good but it isn't in such a sunny spot. I'm sute it will catch up when i move it next summer.

The coreopsis is doing well too. These will look lovely spread out across the front of my border.

IMG_3422.JPG Think this is still looking good .....the hakon grass turning russet and providing lovely undulating movement in the slightest of breezes. Aeonium swarkopf will stay out for 3rd winter

@Tetters Looking good, as usual. :blue thumb:

You may not have seen my postings about our Fuchsias (magellanica) that have all had to be destroyed because of Fuchsia gall mite :cry3:. They are the giant version (with small flowers) that you see a lot of lining the roads in the South West and in Ireland. You need to keep an eye out for it as it's spreading across the South East. Our other Fuchsias are OK at the moment :fingers crossed:
