As you will probably be aware, anyone from the UK is now unable to view music videos through YouTube, thanks to the PRS being extremely greedy.

I believe that performers/songwriters need paying but the PRS go about it all the wrong way, as most of you know i am self employed. I got hasseling and threatening letters from the PRS demanding money for music I am listening to at work (broadcasting to public etc), when they phoned me up hasseling me, that was the last straw, and I asked them whether I had to pay to listen to music in my van now? The answer was "No, you are not liable", at that point I suggested that they remove me from their database and stop calling me, as my circumstances are not changing soon, and I would inform them of any change.

There is a way around the viewing of music on Youtube though, and that will be the use of an IP mask ;) , as long as your IP shows you from being from anywhere but the UK, you should be able to view the YouTube music videos.

Useful bit of information Nathan - :gnthb:

As there are so many thousands of people who use YouTube I wonder if there will be
some sort of outcry it will be interesting to see if anything happens.

Yes, I too was saddened, Nathan, when I heard that. I used to download old stuff from Napster, when you could do it for free. I wasn't interested in new releases and reasoned that the songs I wanted had been around a long time so the dues had been paid.
Curiously, When I log on to Youtube, I get the German site and I seem to be able to view music videos.

    I'm puzzled

I've just downloaded something from You Tube to the 'Music...what do you like' thread.

Nathan, PRS have gone mad :hehe:. They threatened to prosecute one man who has a car repair business. He works on his own and listens to the radio while he works. They said he had to pay the licence because a customer could come into his workshop and hear the music.

Another man was also told that he would have to pay because he is a plumber and listens to the radio in his van and customers may be able to hear it when he is at their house. He said he only listens to talk radio. They answered saying that even talk radio plays jingles.

Remember, although the PRS have been given leave by act of parliament to charge for a licence. It is not a criminal offence. They would have to take you to civil court to get you to pay. Will they do it for petty cases? Probably not. Even then, all it is likely to cost if they win is the court fee if they go through the Small Claims Court - which is very little. Don't let petty beaurocracy beat you down :yho:. Come the revolution - Vote For Shiney :gnthb:

I suppose it depends what you're looking for...I searched for Connie Francis, Dick Haymes and Johnny Mathis and got plenty. Against my better judgement I then tried Leona Lewis and found that Bleeding Love (I thought it was bleeding something!) was still on You Tube. So what's missing?

You Tube have not taken away all music videos yet, they will do though, because there are so many on there.

Unless some agreement is made with PRS

Well I can't find any decent Rocky Horror music on You Tube, apart from some dodgy karaoke tracks for "Doin the Time Warp"!!
