They have what we call "garage sales" - don't sell the garage but put everything in the drive and sell from there. There is a limit as to how many times one can do this - don't want your neighbour turning their property into a flea market. I have never had one of these sales. Don't want the insult of someone offering me 10 cents for something worth much more (at least in my opinion and can't you just picture me putting said object where ... ) and then having to put away anything that didn't sell.

Yes, @Zigs that is what people do but buyers still come up and insult with ridiculous offers. I know people who have had the same problem here with Kijiji - a north american version of ebay. Price $200. firm, someone phones and offers $30. I won't go down that road. Too stubborn..

            Aloha everyone,

            Still just about freezing.

I had no problem with parents and the car park. The school decided to close for the day because of the weather - the poor little dears! :rolleyespink: In our day the schools didn't close for anything :noidea:. Actually that isn't quite true as I know some schools closed during the bombing. :hate-shocked:

It hasn't solved the problem as they're going to have their concerts next Tuesday. I don't know, yet, whether they will be opening for their Wednesday evening concert (I'll have to close the barrier for that).

I had to clear the ice off the 20ft long wheelchair ramp at the hall. so that's my exercise done for the rest of the year. :heehee:

Rain forecast today but it may freeze.

Apart from bird feeding, and a bit of shopping, I shall stay indoors during the day and am out this evening.

Drive carefully, keep well and have a great day

            Aloha!

                  Good day everyone
It's still pitch here and the temperature out there is 14f and our high today will be 18f then we're slipping down to 0f tonight.

I plan to drive to a nearby town this morning to file some papers at the courthouse and then I shall have the rest of the day to putter. Inside. :)

Have a good day and play safe!

Hello all, late Wednesday here. Yes, @CanadianLori and @Zigs we also have garage sales here, where folks put stuff out on tables or clothes on the front lawn. hang signs etc. BUT, we, my husband and I do it a little different, we have three auction houses near us, each accept certain "level" of stuff and dawn certain "level" of bidders to the auction. So we take our "stuff" to those houses depending on what we have. It has served the purpose well with cleaning out his parents and grandparents home over the last 6 years. And to unload some antiques we have collected and with to finally "cash" in them. We actually do quiet well. And don't have to sit in the front of the lawn watching folks.

Anyway, work today, just a meeting. Thursday, the pharmacy that we use for all the meds is catering a holiday lunch for us. So it will be a easy, fun day.

Morning all! Hope you are well on this early morning. Was going to add "bright" to that but it's definitely still dark!

Hope you are all keeping warm, sounds like @CanadianLori and @redstar may be getting very cold!!!

Busy week here, lots of work and early mornings as usual - we don't slow down for Christmas as where I work runs most of the way through it! There is still ice everywhere so walking places is treacherous. Most roads have cleared due to the warmer weather over the past few days but there are also still a fair few blobs of snow around.

Not been on the best of health recently and had a few spots of not great news, so just trying to keep everything going for a while! Hope you are all keeping well and your Thursdays are warm and happy! :)

                        Aloha everyone,

After yesterday's rain the snow and ice have now gone from the driveway, footpaths and roads but is lingering on lawns and plants. There was quite a lot of not too bad flooding in this area from the combination of rain and melted snow.

@CanadianLori and @redstar Our 'boot sales' are not quite the same as garage sales. Boot sales are not done from home and are from the boot/trunk of a car. They are normally held on large commercial sites, car parks or farmer's fields. An individual can rent a position and can sell almost anything from their vehicle and/or table. These sales may consist of just a couple of dozen sellers to hundreds. Our local one is held on a Saturday on a grand scale and is on a private airfield. They combine a boot sale with a market (separate parts of the site) and charge £10 per selling vehicle and free entry for buyers. Their record attendance on one day was almost 10,000 people. :rolleyespink: Once a year they hold an airshow of WWII (and earlier) planes but there aren't many of the planes around now. We used to be able to see some of the planes flying over us (we're only 15 minute drive from them) but they're not allowed to fly this way any more because of an International airport near us.

I have a busy day today. I need to go to Barry as he has three official forms to fill in and he says that one of them is over 20 pages. This is all about the wet room that the local authority need to install for him. At least they have agreed to do it but the form filling is a bit over the top!

I want to get a haircut now as, next week, they will be getting busy for Christmas. I don't think it's fair for me to go when it's busy as they don't charge me. I also want to pop in and see a lot of my ex-staff before they get too busy. They should all have their mistletoe up by now ;) :heehee:

Library and shopping are on the 'to do' list as well. I have Christmas parties to buy for. The three clubs that I run all need organising. We provide the booze and prizes and the members bring all the food. :blue thumb: Next Tuesday will be the biggest one with about 100 people.
Keep well and have a great day

                        Aloha!

                          Rain here too.

Could do with a bit of sun, batteries get low either side of the solstice

Not using the auction rooms here anymore @redstar Last lot I put in didn't sell and they didn't tell me, just dumped it:doh:

It included a printer's tray that I know I could have got £10 for at a car boot

Car boot sale here isn't open in the winter though.

Have a good day everyone :spinning:

@shiney , then I think, the "Boot Sale" is like a "Flea Market" , we also have areas that people can rent a small /tiny area to put up a table with their stuff to sell. Or some don't pay for the area at all. Like a shopping-parking lot over on the side where parking is not needed, they will hang a sign, "Neighborhood Garage Sale" and several families with have their stuff out.

Whatever the name, its the never ending issue of getting rid of the "stuff". People make a business out of it, cleaning out someone's dead relatives houses for a fee. (but you all know that). When I was in the nursing home field, the children would tell me of how, with their grandparents stuff they just put it to the curb. I am like---there could have been historic value or something, at least contact an auction house --some come out and look and give you money.

Happy Thursday folks, sipping coffee, and watching some wee birds hopping on the hosta seed tails eating the seeds in the new fallen fresh snow. I love the chill in the air. Off to the office soon. Have a good day all.

                                Good day everyone

@shiney I hope you are able to see lots of your ex-staff and they haven't all retired as yet :heehee:

We have farmers markets in the warm months where quite often there are also tables that sell car boot type items. We also have "flea" markets that sound very much like your large markets. Everything from fresh baking to antiques. They charge quite a bit for a booth at these places and unless you had lots to sell, not very profitable.
