Christianity alive and well in our school.

Just came from our local primary school Christmas carol service.
It was pleasing that the Christmas story is still told in some of our schools ,our local vicar told the story with passion and comedy using a dinosaur and a Star Wars figure.
I wondered where that came from ,he showed a hilarious clip from a Mr Bean Christmas show..........that’s where the idea came from.
So it is a beautiful story weather you believe it or not and I think a lot of us would like to.
I think of all the other options it is my prefered choice.

Consider this. If it is the truth, as some believe, then the implications are as profoundly amazing as the story would suggest.

But if it is entirely made up, then that means that almost 2000 years ago, a few people that must have been very influential had the wisdom to recognise the failings of human nature, and concoct a story that would prevail for millenia, with a global influence, that was clearly designed to try to steer people to be a bit nicer to each other.

Either way, it's amazing.

If there is a god / christ thing that is somehow seperate from normal folk, then that's quite cool. But I think it's far more divine that ordinary humans, despite our weaknesses and shortcomings, were the ones that tried to set the rules of positive virtues.

 

I'm also happy seeing a traditional nativity story being told. I hate the thought of anything resembling belief being stamped out by the PC atheistic crowd. Few countries in this world would allow long held beliefs to be stopped by force!

@shiney I'm not excusing the HT in any way, as she is paid the big bucks to not lose her temper, but as a primary school teacher by training I imagine she must have been driven absolutely demented in order to say something as dramatic as that . However, still doesn't excuse her.

 

Yes, I definitely agree that it is very bad practice to make the whole group suffer, and it would have been very traumatic for the younger children who would have been involved in the nativity, and just over-excited about it all. Usually it is mainly the infants department who are involved anyway. I haven't read the story, so shouldn't really be commenting at all, but I pictured a kind of Joyce Grenfell monologue of the scenario. I will not say a single word about the irate parents getting air time on radio....., particularly as I didn't hear that either.

I did once happen to be in a school whilst some teachers were having a school show rehearsal with the P6s and 7s (years 5 and 6 in England, I think). The masterclass in self-restraint those teachers demonstrated was commendable, but I imagine an extra bottle of wine must have had to be purchased on the way home
