seed help.

ive got some carmen f1 cucumber seeds they have instructions but dont say if they need covering.
not got a propagator,it says grow them on the windowsill also no guide as to watering any help please.
they will not be going in the greenhouse til into may hopefully.

hi, your seed compost needs to be moist but not soaking. If you cover your seed tray/pot with glass or a polythene bag this will retain moisture from increased humidity and save you having to re-wet compost. Be mindful that indoor cucumberis known for liking it hot and humid( about 20 c to germinate, and around 25 c when growing on) more so than a tomato. good luck with em.

 

Yes put the pots in a semitransparent plastic bag and forget about them until they germinate. Only sprinkle a little bit of compost on them. A very mild fingicide solution sprayed around the seeds and on top of the soil is also helpful!

 

Cucumbers are susceptible to neck rot, this is caused by water splashing on the stems during watering. For this reason, when in pots always water from the bottom by standing them in a tray of water. Once planted into the greenhouse, I sink a short bit of 2'' pipe down to the roots and water through that.
