I ended up having a heated discussion on there this week due to an idiot saying we are lockdown! We are NOT on ruddy lockdown yet! I wish people would read the information given! I think most of these hens have new homes which is fabulous sx

I have covered my runs, I have foot baths at the run entry points for my wellies....but my hens are still allowed to free range! So they are walking in & our without having to wash their feet but I have to wash my wellies  .
I've spent a small fortune on DEFRA approved disinfectant to keep my patio/run/feeders/drinkers clean but my hens can still free range??. Dear DEFRA please can you make up some sensible rules???

No one up here seems to be locking their birds up. The flock down the lane is still free ranging in their field. Last year there were posters at the vets advising people what to do. No posters at the moment.

If you remember I first bought hens November 2016, less than a week later bird flu reared its ugly head! However, I understood the importance of good hygiene and covering the run .. (unlike the few who openly admitted elsewhere they have kept them for years and couldn't give a toss!)

Does anyone know if the avian flu lockdown has ended? My neighbours from hell have just let theirs out roaming freely despite us having a free range chicken farm down the road and our pond with wildfowl and being a few mins away from Tring reservoirs

Hi Snooky I am checking daily to see if there has been any update from the gov website as to the chicken lock down as I have a few hens, last update was 6 February 2021and it was basically the Edited list of confirmed cases of avian influenza in England. No mention of we are or not still in bird lock down though. Glad im not the only one that has difficulty making sense of the information on the site. I have covered my chicken runs so they can still get out of the houses but its been very wet and it don't take them long to make it muddy, although I have mover some of them onto new grass last week before the last lot of wet weather arrived, I hope to move the last 9 hens this week if its drier. Sounds like we have a similar neighbour, it bugs the hell out of me also as most of our village is letting there birds roam.:gaah: Moan over I feel better now :)

From what I understand, from a friend who keeps chickens, the restrictions are still in place. Any possible contravention should be reported to DEFRA.

@Snorky85 I think Mrs Shiney still may have a link to the chicken rescue club facebook page that Beckie used to run if you want me to ask her.

oh thanks @shiney -a link to Beckie's group would be great. i kept thinking Beckie would know the answer straight away.

@Jordhandeson I eventually found out about the chickens from speaking to Environment Agency (about another subject). The chicken lockdown is still on, as per shiney. A neighbouring farm has reported the idiots for their roaming chickens. they seem to have kept them back in their run now. theyre so odd-why on earth would you buy 3 large males and 2 bantam hens?! and why would you let them roam onto the communal allotment plots? oh i know-because they want to annoy the neighbours with their crowing and let them annoy neighbours by eating their produce because they haven't got an allotment :nonofinger:

it's terrible as we have a large free range chicken farm further down the lane and all those chickens are in. but two idiot households let their poultry out everywhere. totally irresponsible.

anyway...that's my rant over for the day too :heehee:
