I also grew up in the north. Worse, the north east which has been an employment blackspot for years. I saw the demise of pretty much all the heavy industry, so I too have reason to despise the conservatives.

However, since New Labour (ie not the Labour party from the 70s and 80s) came into power, I have seen everything decent about our nation and our heritage being stripped away.

We've seen unsustainable inflation in house prices to the point where ordinary folk can't afford to buy their own place unless they are prepared to take out 50 year mortgages. The government kept promising to do something about that, but why would they when 800,000 empty residential properties are owned by the government staff? Now there is a house price crash due to the recession that wouldn't have happened if the FSA, and division of the government, had done their job properly. This house price crash has really ruined things for many ordinary folks, but it is a good thing for those that want to get onto the ladder. So the government tries to restart the insane house price inflation by trying to stimulate mortgage lending so that the value of their investment properties will recover.

What else have we seen under New Labour (not the Labour party of the 70s and 80s)? Our jails are overcrowded so we deal with it by reducing sentences and avoiding jail altogether if possible, so violent criminals walk free and nobody fears the judicial system. We bow down to the EU and give asylum and tax payers money to convicted terrorists. For a while we weren't even allowed to choose our own fruit and veg in the supermarket, because our ministers, whose wages we pay with our taxes, saw fit to waste their time defining silly rules about the acceptable shape of fruit. We've seen our youths criminalised and demonised, with signs appearing everywhere saying that groups of 2 or more people can be moved on by the police.

We've seen our soldiers killed in wars that are not even Britain's fight. We've seen suicide bombers on home ground for the first time ever. And what ever happened to education? Many youngsters I know struggle to form basic English sentences using words of one syllable.

Anyway, sorry for the lengthy rant:)

    I'm going to vote Conservative.

Well, if you do so, it ought to be more than a protest vote. After visiting their website on a number of occasions, I've come to the conclusion that we'd have far less to fear from a future under them than if the utterly awful, control freaks of NuLabour remained in power, and that includes all the peaceful, hard-working, legally-settled foreigners who are already here (but not those on the asylum racket or the Islamic -takeover crew).
From their showing in recent elections, UKIP is a party that's dead in the water, and I reckon the Libdems will soon be in that category too.

We could always start our own party. At least it would be government for the people by the people. An honest party for a change.:yho:

I rarely get involved in these sort of discussions, and you won't hear my point of view this time :hehe:, but I was at a meeting today over a local issue.

There were just over 100 people there and I overheard quite a lot of them talking about the Conservative decision to no longer go for the rise in inheritance tax. Most of the older people were quite upset about it - even those who live in council houses. They see it as a sort of U-turn and wonder what comes next.

An interesting comment came from someone who looked as if they were in their 40s. He said that he is one of five brothers and sisters and his parents have slogged their guts out all their life to help provide something for their children in the future. His parents had worked their way up to a big house to accomodate the children and it is now worth quite a lot of money. They and their five adult children were really happy that the Conservatives were going to allow the family to keep what all their hard work had provided. Now, even under the Conservatives, a big chunk of it will go to the government.

He was quite a persuasive talker and a lot of the older Conservatives said that they would now think twice about voting for them.

I make my own decisions based on what I perceive as being important to me and the country - in that order :D

My father always voted Labour (a staunch East Ender) and my mother always voted Liberal (possibly to annoy my father :hehe:).

I'll vote for Woo and the Garden Party. :gnthb:

Well if The elections occur before June 9th? I won't be able to vote although if I could I'm still not sure that I would vote for UKIP as I'm a little unsure about there views on homosexuality and the scrapping of the human rights act...:skp: Considering that the Human Rights act is the only real piece of law in the UK which gives me the same rights as everyone else (to my knowledge (would happily be proven wrong:wink:) such as: age of consent and the freedom from discrimination.

Also quite liking the Green Party at the moment although I am kind of new to the whole politics thing...
