Aquatic compost

    My local B&Q has 20l bags for 20p I have some big raised beds to fill. Can you use aquatic compost for regular plants? It’d be veggies we’d grow

      I think theres a fair bit of clay in aquatic compost and its low in feed too.
      But at only 20p a bag id be chucking as many bags in as my car could carry.

        I would , a lot cheaper than the expensive bags of top soil. :smile:

        Aquatic compost is generally much lower in nutrients and has fair bit of sand or grit, so mix in some other soil with it and give it a some general feed like growmore or manure, depending on what you want to grow.

          We got 65 bags. I think that was quite restrained-lol! There was a bag open, it was on the sandy side, so it’ll be perfect for the bottom of the raised beds with good compost/topsoil/manure on top :D

          To be honest, "Aquatic" Compost is a classic case of paying more for less!!:doh: I can't see the advantage of buying a poor nutrient compost and having to add nutrients to it for ordinary use, I think I'd rather spend money on a compost meant for the job.
          When I built my Wildlife pond with an integral Bog Garden I used, as recommended by the late great Geof Hamiliton, ordinary garden soil for the Bog Garden and the crates for the Marginal plants rather than "Aquatic" compost which Geof seemed to have a poor view of.
          When it comes to improving the drainage in soil I would rather use sand and grit.:dunno::snorky:

            I'd be inclined to wonder why they are selling the stuff at 20p a bag.

            I always follow the rule, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
