IMG_3408.JPG Saw this on a short walk this afternoon. Shrub stood about 4 feet tall. Quite like the look of it for a particular spot in the garden, but don't know what it is. After a quick Google I think it could be viburnum tinus. Anyone able to confirm? Thanks in advance!

Thanks @Victoria. What sort of height is yours? I am looking for some kind of shrubs to hide the greenhouse a bit, but something I will be able to keep to a maximum of about five feet.

Hi @Irmemac I keep mine to about 3 meters and in a conical shape. I am sure you could maintain it at any height. They grow wild in the hills here.

Yours is lovely, @Victoria, and a beautiful light and warmth in your picture too, which is much needed here at the moment! :hate-shocked:The leaves on the one I found are much smaller, but it is a beautiful plant. Didn't notice much of a scent from the flowers, although I have got a cold at the moment!

@Victoria That looks a beautiful plant and how it's grown but the flowers just make the plant :love30:

Thanks, @Gail_68. Very tempted by it, and it's also useful to know it will thrive in my area. Although I am looking for screening in front of the greenhouse, I have also wondered about a small pond (eventually) in front of the screening, so not sure if shrubs are the way to go, or a bit of trellis and low climbers. Hmm. Plenty to ponder!

I have a huge Viburnum Tinus @Irmemac . It is pretty old now (here when we moved here 18 years ago). it grows very strongly and doesn't bat an eyelid at weather like we are having atm:rolleyespink:. Really nice to have something in flower at this time of the year. It responds very well to being hard pruned and being evergreen would be a good choice for what you want. Living relatively close to me have no fears that it will grow with you.

Mine is not scented per se @Irmemac and I have never had berries on it. I guess I planted it some 12+ years ago and it faces northeast shaded from the southern sun by the outdoor living room and under a Jacaranda tree. As @silu said, it is good (for you guys) to have something in bloom at this time of year. For us, a lot is in bloom now as it is our rainy season .. have had almost none so far but it is here courtesy of Emma this week ... need it for our five months of zero in the summer.

Well you have a few options there @Irmemac ponds are lovely but need maintaining well as you already know...we've been looking at electric waterfalls for the centre of our garden as I find them soothing :) climbers are nice we have several up the back fence and the one is gorgeous spreads out all green and come late august/September goes red/bronze/burgundy/ and the more it's maturing more colours are adding in.

Well you've got a lot of time to make your mind up...with how the weather is treating us

@silu , that is good information. I really liked the look of the one I saw, and sounds like it will fit the bill, particularly if it tolerates a hard pruning well. Glad it can cope with the rigours of our climate, and it must be a hardy plant indeed to enjoy @Victoria's climate and ours!

@Gail_68, that climber sounds stunning. Do you know its name? I haven't had a lot of climbers. I tried honeysuckle a few times in a big pot but it never thrived, and the clematis Montana I had did little for 5 years then exploded into blossom the year I had to remove it for wall maintenance :wallbanging:.

@Victoria looking out at about a foot and a half of snow I am very envious of all your beautiful blooms. Wish I could share my rain quota with you in your dry season!
