the magnolias are in full flower today so its the first day of spring in Cornwall.
So, the snow will keep away and the temps will be springlike
So glad the winter is over:snorky:

Does this mean we have three first days of Spring now...... 26 Feb, 1 March and around 21 March ?

Where have all the other posts gone? I wanted to look at Armadii's diagram.

I'm glad my apricot tree is safe inside. I'll wait until May before it goes outside. Seems strange to be pollinating the blossom when there's snow on the ground:smile:

Do you get many apricots alana? Which variety? :)
Think you are right about pollination....snow on the ground yet the flowers are ready!

I didn't get any apricots last year - I bought the tree bare rooted last spring. It is "new large early" and is supposed to be self fertile. I'm not taking any chances so I'm pollinating the flowers as they emerge. I brought it inside in the autumn to give it a fighting chance.

It makes up for my amaryllis which has healthy leaves but didn't have a flower. I don't know whether it will flower in the future - I hope so.

                      Thanks @ARMANDII ,

I think that's fascinating. It's the sort of thing I'd love as a poster.

                      1 March

By the meteorological calendar, spring starts on 1 March.

Astronomical season. The astronomical spring begins on 20 March 2018 and ends on 21 June 2018. The astronomical calendar determines the seasons due to the 23.5 degree tilt of the Earth's rotational axis in relation to its orbit around the sun. Both equinoxes and solstices are related to the Earth's orbit around the sun ..

This is the Spring most regarded by Gardeners and the like as being the real start of Spring:dunno::heehee:
