World-renowned physicist Stephen Hawking has died at the age of 76.

He died peacefully at his home in Cambridge in the early hours of Wednesday, his family said.

The Briton was known for his work with black holes and relativity and wrote several popular science books including A Brief History of Time.

At the age of 22 Prof Hawking was given only a few years to live after being diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone disease.

I love this saying of his something for us all to live by :imphrt:

"Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do, and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.”

He is one of my Hero's and always will be:love30:. His courage in carrying on Life and his Science while suffering from Motor Neurone Disease was beyond the bounds of the normal. He was renown for his sense of humour, poking fun at himself and others, while being able to pass on his views, knowledge, theories to ordinary people in a way that inspired them. He was Brilliant, he was , he was a Genius, he was Inspiring, he was ahead of his time and has given his fellow scientists enough theories and calculations that will keep them working for years:scratch::snorky:. His work and ideas got me interested in Astronomy and for that I'm grateful.

A truly inspirational human being who: defied his illness, outlived his prognosis, laughed at himself; thought long, and hard, on matters which impact on us all; kept his dignity throughout; held a pragmatic view on all things and turned his personal limitations into theories of infinity and beyond!!!

My youngest son, when hearing the news, remarked: he was a genius! Who will *my* children look to?
I replied: yes, he was. But, if the world were full of geniuses they would simply become ordinary ergo non-genius ;) Instead, he has now made room for the genius *your* children, or grandchildren, will look up to ;)

Thank you, Mr Hawking, for being *you*; in all of your glory!
