Lidl is having a big gardening week starting Mon 2nd March looking at their leaflet there's plants, equipment, tools, gloves etc all at good prices don't know about the quality yet but for someone starting out on a budget it's ideal. Might go have a look if I can get a lift lol

I like the look of the gardening cloggs. £3.80
Similar are £12.99 at our garden centre.

I shop around quite a bit and those 'offers' don't seem to be that good in the Lidl's catalogue you tend to get better 'stuff' from Wilkinsons for less money and better quality in my honest opinion.Hel.xxx.

the 95p secateurs are better than the usual £5.00 pairs from everywhere else, as we use them in college because they where cheaper from Lidls than the wholesaler :P

I think for me, it depends on what I am looking for.

I have developed a habit of poking through the gardening section of all the shops. For plants and things -the choice is woefully limited in Wilkinsons-except for bulbs, but then they are very good value for pots, hanging baskets and trellises.

Garden tools-well usually I go to B&Q because I use Wilkinson sword stuff when I can. Some don`t like it and the garden forks I admit are just trash.

I`ve lost count of the times I have spent a fortune on tools from "reputable" suppliers for them to snap, bend or break. Money doesn`t mean quality unfortunately-of course if anyone has a suggestion for a strong and reliable garden fork then I`m all ears.

But Lidl-well it is in the middle somewhere. I have been building up slowly a thick wild hedge and without them, and a reasonable knowledge of hardwood cuttings (just shove `em in the mud who could ask for anything easier?) it would have cost me hundreds so I`m still for Lidl and Wilkinsons on the whole.

Don't know about Lidl, but the year my cherry tomatoes won at the village flower show, they were grown in Aldi 99p organic growbags.

I mentioned this in another thread about Aldi and Lidl, so sorry for repeating myself, but you mentioned a fork, lollipop, and I got one from Lidl last week for 13 euros, which i'm very pleased with. It sounds as though the UK stores may be getting in some of the things that were in the Irish ones last week, so it may be worth looking.

Been to Lidl got my cloggs, pink with roses.
Also got some cheap propergators .
I had some lovely seeds and bulbs from The pound shop.
50 mixed colour Dutch Iris for £1
And they are doing boxes of shake and rake mixed flowers seeds in one colour
    Red, yellow and blue etc
    Each box covers 15 m2
So if you need to fill in with one colour or have a colour theme in your garden you can fill in between your plants with them.
For £1 I think that really good value.

I used a red box last year and had lots of lovely red flowers including different kinds of poppies and lavatera, and lots of other red and deep pink flowers that I didn't no the names of.
( I'm not very good at names) LOL
This year I am putting some of them into trays on thick news paper so I can lift them out and plant them out on the paper when they get a bit bigger.
I need to wait to see where to put them as I can't remember where the bulbs are I planted.:lollol:

Well, I went on Monday and bought two cold frames and put them together this morning. Very straightforward to do, even though the instructions are the 'list of parts in fifteen languages and a very small picture' type. Recommend a powered screwdriver though.

The cold frames are now in place. One even has plants in it! They certainly look the part, although I've anchored the lids down with a brick as the wind is getting up here.

I'll add my thanks to Little Miss Road Rage as well for a very timely post.

    Steve
