i got one yesterday. gonna plant it hopefully this sunday. will let you know if they worked.....
only saying that because once i brought a rose bush from wilkinsons and it was quite cheap but all the cut ends had been waxed. i tried to peel off as much as i could and nothing happened, so i dont know if it was me somehow, or if it was just dead!!!
im always quite weary of ''cheap'' plants.
i really hope it workls though!!!!!!

I bought an apple and a cherry from Lidl a couple of weeks ago: only £3.99 each! The Cherry has already formed large green buds. I bought a few last year which all settled in nicely, at least as well as similar plants that I have bought in garden centres for much, much more!
If you look at the trees in Homebase etc at about a tenner a time the small print on the label says that the trees are "not established in the pots" - so they are really bare-rooted trees which have been stuck in a plastic pot with a few handfuls of compost and marked up by 200%!

I have to admit I was eager to get one the other day because my goodness they do 'look' ok and £4.50 is a bargain for the size of the trees the same sort/size cost £12.50 at my local garden centre and that's the cheap one!

The only thing that stopped me from buying one was the type of companion apple trees needed to aid the 'Golden Delicious' I'm not really fond of the ones recommended so will have to think things through before I buy.Hel.xxx

I ended up buying Granny Smiths, with Elstar as the recommended companion, as well as a self fertile victoria plum.
All are healthy trees, already budding up nicely.

We'll have to wait and see if they were a good investment.
