My pink and also the red are both very good this year, lost my white a couple of years ago, they are facing North with plenty behind them to shade as the sun travels round from early afternoon.

I could be wrong but looks like the cold weather is responsible Woo. I have quite a few Spectablis and because they come into growth early they are often slaughtered when we have late frosts. Luckily they always recover. Most of mine are about 25 years old. They do get very woody in their centres and die off but new growth appears on the edges and offsets the dead middles. it doesn't move that well unless you are quite careful as the roots are woody and brittle but found it best to move when just starting into growth rather during dormancy. I spilt up a huge clump last year and replanted 8 good sized sections. All took and are looking better for the split.

They look good healthy plants @wiseowl. They really do well in quite deep shade as long as it isn't dry shade. Use your sunniest spots for your favourite Roses:)

The only reason that I suggested it is that one of my Corydalis (a close relative) had similar issues with the early blooms which were just emerging as the chill hit.
