I went into the garden centre today to purchase some herb seeds and came out with a bag of seed potatoes, I have only a very small garden but fancied growing a few earlies "Foremost" is what they are called, the date of thier breeding was what caught my eye 1950s wondered if they would have the flavour like the ones my Dad used to grow does any one know these?

Hi Rosie, is'nt that typical of gardeners - going out for one thing and coming back with an entirely different thing. :hehe:

I haven't grown Foremost myself, you will have to post what they taste like as I try 3 different types each year and always open to suggestions.

I would set them out for chitting straight away and plant them into the ground, or containers, next month.

    Good luck :)

    Foremost Seed Potatoes
    (First Early)
An old favourite that was actually introduced by Suttons over fifty years ago. The white round tubers are deliciously firm and waxy when young and retain their fine taste as the flesh dries a little on maturity. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Skin Colour - White. Flesh Colour - White. Uses - new, boil, steam and saute. Excellent flavour!
Not grown them myself but Hobbits like "golden taters"

I've grown foremost and can vouch for their taste - a good choice in my opinion :gnthb:
