Does everyone get namebadges with their forum name at Shineyland? I'm not sure I'd recognise people by their everyday ones! :snorky:

There's a reserved table for GC members and they all introduce themselves to each other.

My first visit was 1960, it was jammed packed then. I contiued to visit and eventually realised for me and perhaps many others, that it had become something of a ritual. At the end of the day, rather than it having been a grand experience, it was more like self torture.

So much more enjoyable to watch it on TV. Having said that. The personalities prancing about spoil it. I often mute the sound, as I do when watching snooker.

Yes it can be very costly. Say a family of four, entry cost, members or public, good old Visa. Then the Englishmans favourite. A good old cuppa, perhaps a bite to eat also. Then of course. The must have plant purchased at the show. Sorry folks, but I can't help laughing at that. Anyway. If YOU do make it to the show. Enjoy it. Please continue to enjoy your garden and the friendship of this forum.

I used to go a lot, in the 70s I worked for a well known seed company which exhibited there. To be honest it was a lot of hard work - we worked on the ratio of growing 200 plants for every planned one to take. Lugging all the stuff out of greenhouses etc. I was glad when I left that company and stopped going to Chelsea for a while, but every once in a while I go back. None of the old faces are left anymore from my time, and the vast crowds prevent you spending any time looking at the gardens or talking to the exhibitors - there are slow and fast lanes set up now to herd you past them!

I enjoy seeing and talking to the old Chelsea Pensioners there, I have more in common with them these days :)

I hope those going enjoy it, please post your photos and thoughts.

I won't say the name of the garden / designer as it might be a spoiler for some, but for those who know the medal winners announced today, do you agree or disagree with the Best in Show award?

I just googled and couldn't find proper photos of the winning garden. I like that garden designer though - they are down to earth and hopefully the show garden will be 'normal'.

Did anyone see the passionate interview by Monty Don with the actress Alison Steadman.

It was very special as she abhorred the use of chemicals on our farms and gardens and how this it killing our bees well she said if it’s killing insects it must be killing the bees, and how the slug pellets are killing the slugs and snails hence the birds are eating these and maybe dying.
She talked about our lovely garden centres.........and always at the back the Killer Wall where all the chemicals are kept.
I know we have heard this before but coming from her heart as it did, for me ,it was special.

I did @roders and was thinking how if only more people with influence said that on camera, more people would realise and maybe think twice about reaching for the pest control chemicals. Was good to see her say it and am surprised Monty didn't high five her, bet he wanted to!
