Do you no the answer to this ?
Today they were talking on the radio about the state of the roads after the resent bad weather.
    Pot holes everywhere.
Why are they called pot holes someone asked?
When the Romans build the first roads they were made from clay.
This was stolen and made into pots by the poor villagers.
    Leaving a Pot Hole.

    True or False ?

Heard the same story on BBC breakfast news. True or false, sounds good.

Potholes around us are horrendous - as motorbikers hitting on of them would be disastrous. There is a link on the council website that allows you to report any. So far I've reported 10!

Around here it will probably be a good thing. Some of our roads are atrocious, so if even more of the surface comes off, the roads might actually end up smooth.

I thought Roman roads were made of stone, topped off with stone chippings.

Surely a "pot hole" is called a "pot hole" because the hole just looks like.... a pot?

Around here, if you wanted to make a pot, you could just dig up a bit of clay from outside your hut and get on with it. You wouldn't have to walk all the way to the nearest Roman road!
