I am sure I asked about this last year when we bought our small apple tree but can't find the advice I was given .... someone said to put a grease band around the tree to stop some moths crawling up and laying egges .... can someone please tell me exactly how to do this and what sort of 'grease' to use please ? .... You buy the Grease bands ready greased. Boltac is the name of the company. Most G/C sell them. Apply as shown on the Box.
You can buy the grease and make your own bands, but it is very messy.
Otherwise you need a good thick layer of Vasekine covered in a strip of plastic to stop it drying out. This is not as effective as the Boltac stuff which stays sticky longer.
If you find snails or slugs up the tree eating the fruit, then see if you can find some copper impregnated grease under a plastic strip.
