Mutant tomato plant??

Hi everyone,

One of my tomato plants has gone very odd. The growing shoot seemed to taper off into one or two enormous flowers, each at the end of their own branch (perhaps the true growing shoot got pinched out by accident and a side shoot took over?). In turn these flowers seem to have turned into what appear to be very weird tomatoes.

Does anyone have any idea what has happened here?!

I was planning to just let it do its thing and see what happens.

I've seen this kind of thing on Marmande.
I think it is probably a bush variety, you often get one badly shaped tomato on each truss, the rest are usually ok.
Yes I think the true growing point has been pinched out, if that is what you are doing.
Others will come though, but it might take a while.

The plant seems to have corrected itself over time. The weird mutant tomato either fell off or was removed by my mum when she was cat- and plant-sitting. I think the growing tip got pinched out by accident!

Good to hear it's not day of the triffids in my greenhouse, anyway

 

They are actually perfectly OK to eat so don't remove them next time.
