My spuds chitted themselves!

That's not chitted,that's sprouted like leaving them in the dark in a warm place.

Chitted spuds have stubby green shoots,not white ones like these.

I'd rub these off and let them chit properly in a cool bright place.

If you got them from your supplier in this state then ask 'em for your money back.

Honest.

I have already flicked off these shoots, I didn`t like them either after a breif check around on google. They are now out in the greenhouse to slow them down and we`ll see what happens. They were mail order and frankly it`s easier to chalk it up to experience and pick some more up from the local garden centre ( and cheaper too).

I have to agree with vegmandan on this issue.
The white shoots look just like shop spuds after they have been in the dark warm dark larder for a few days..
Glad to say mine look just like vegmandans.
And. I think its really bad news that a supplier would send these shooted spuds out as seed pots.

to be fair, it may be that I opened them and then stuffed them under the compiuer desk for a few weeks.

Either way, they are well on their way to being good seed potatoes now.
