I had my rear pads and disc replaced 18 months ago, they were grinding, apparently I was stopping on the metal at the back, this was main dealer stuff, they said the front were still ok.
The car has done a little over 50 000 so I'm not complaining even if the front discs need replacing with the pads.
I'd rather know its ok for a while instead of messing around later just getting the discs replaced.

I always have a service once a year, as I dont really do the mileage that would mean having one more often.
I even checked the oil last week.

I had new boots for my old car, two new boots of different sizes on the same axle, the paper work was signed by 2 people and one was for checking that the work was ok by the other person, one big problem was there was only one person there  so i had a real good go at him for fitting wrong size tyre and for the c### on the paper work,

i did get the tyres half price ;):snorky:

Just a thought but I remember way back they put sensors on your brakes that were supposed to let you know when they needed replacing?
We have sensors on cars for nearly everything these days, but have they stopped fitting them, as when I was grinding away on the rear pads nothing told me I needed new pads.

The company has now been taken over by a big company ;)

no, but one of the tyres had a smaller profile (rim to tread)

Those sensors are generally not fitted to rear brakes @pete - fronts only on most cars.

You say that, but I remember a friend of mine bought a new Yugo, many years ago, and it had an odd/different size wheel

                My approach is:

                Car dash says 'Oil OK' - do nothing;
Cars dash says - 'Check oil' - add 250ml of oil - message goes back to 'Oil OK'.

Let's hope the oil level sensor doesn't go faulty :dbgrtmb:.

Yeah, always been that way, dont mind driving them, but you can shove crawling around under them.
I guess we all have our interests, I know people that spend the whole weekend sodding around fixing bits on their cars that basically dont need fixing.
Me, I'd rather be in the garden or out in the countryside.
But it takes all sorts as they say.

MOT reqirements for brake pad thickness is 1.5mm if the tester can see them. If the tester cannot see them they cannot fail unless they are a] noisy or b] the wear light is on. A tester cannot remove anything on an MOT test to improve visability of components, not even a wheel trim. At 1.5mm they will be crap on a fast cross country thrash by the third or fourth hard application. By the fifth or sixth they'll be non-existant. So whilst they may be MOTable they may not be up to much.

Yeah, but that's yank crap :heehee:
With modern oils there is absolutely no need whatsover for such excessively short oil change intervals. How old is the Mustang?

Almost all cars have front wear sensors now. If the car is rear wheel drive (or four wheel drive) they'll most likely have rear sensors too as the traction control can use the brakes (via the ABS system) to tame wheelspin if needs be.
These sensors are another bugbear of mine now. They are starting to activate far, far earlier than they used to.

My mustang is 19 years old. It's a convertible. White over dark blue, white leather interior. Still in lovely condition. I call her my "Barbie Menopause" car. :) I also have a Dodge caravan, and an F150 pick up truck and in the garage an old 'cuda from 1970. So maintnence adds up fast but I'm okay with that. When I feel like grumbling, I remind myself that some people have no vehicles.

I hope that it's not six - it's a British engine. As if that ain't bad enough it's a British engine from the seventies :yikes:
