I'm thinking of planting a rustic wattle fence using willow and/or hazel. If I use willow will the roots be invasive near buildings?

    Hi Tweezers,

Rustic fencing can look fab in the right place and I hope yours works out well. Tree roots can't destable a house per se, but they can absorb water from the ground and cause soil shrinkage/collapse. As long as you're planting trees far enough away from any buildings you should be alright. Also, I assume that you'll be coppicing said willow and/or hazel regularly so that should keep the root system in check too.

Thanks , I'll bear that in mind. I know that willow trees have invasive roots but I wasn't sure if the cuttings would have too. It is right next to a building so I may decide against it for this time.
