Ha ha Shiney, I identify with that
I am on Facebook but resist “adding friends” etc. and in a very limited way.
Using Facebook messenger though I talk to and see folk in Australia, New Zealand and even as far away as west Cornwall for free
Facebook has its uses but........

I use Facebook because I am of the slightly older generation and joined it as a way to keep up with what my distant family and friends are all doing as I don’t see them every day of the week.A lot of my family members(nephews and nieces) are all now posting on Instagram more so than Facebook but that is fine as that seems to be what the youngsters are all in to

I belong to a few groups, mainly walking,gardening,etc and it is so nice to see photos of all the mountains and hills they are climbing up in Scotland,The Lake District,Wales,Ireland etc,and a lot of them like me and Mr Kandy are doing the 1,000 mile walking challenge (we are up to 445 since January1st) and it is nice to give people some advice when they post photos of plants/trees/shrubs that they need identifying. I also add support in groups from people being diagnosed with Diabetes who like me wasn’t given any information and told to go home and research on the Internet,no wonder I was suicidal at the time

At the moment I am recovering from a recent foot op so although I can’t do my usual 4.5mile walk every day I can at least pop out to GC’s with Mr Kandy to buy cheap plants (50p each) which we are growing on ready to go out into the garden when they are a bit bigger The pale purple Primula Marginata was one plant and Mr Kandy managed to split it to make another three extra plants

Tbh, I’m sure that when you take into account the walking back and forth cutting the grass, you have done a lot more miles than you realise!!

 

I recently joined facebook but only as a way of keeping up with a few friends and family.
Basically I put very little about myself on there.

I enjoy facebook. have several "Private" like minded groups I am linked to. Some garden groups, cooking groups, etc. all of which happily accept my garden shots easily from my computer. With the cooking groups I learn lots about other culinary styles, ingredients, spices etc. I have interacted with lots of wonderful folks from all over the world. Some share their travel experiences or family gatherings. Sometimes actually gatherings are planned, which is wonderful. One of the groups I belong to, have been with for about 20 years, prior to facebook, then switched to facebook. I get to discover lots of interesting plants etc. Recently I hooked onto a Chef group, interesting to read about their world, have no input there, but an interesting read. And I think there have been other threads on this site regarding Facebook.

Back to the word, "Friends" that @shiney started out with this topic. To me in general "Facebook Friends" are not truly your friend in the sense of the subjective word. Unless, one of them happens to be your "real life friend". Lets face it they are not going to ever show their true self to the world or even be there if you have a flat tire. They offer a window of sorts to their lives of their own exclusiveness.

 

Friends are mostly people I've worked with over the years.
I never have any friends I've never met.
