Hi, i'm new but said hello on new year.

I have a Canary palm which has grown out of its pot by several inches and I was wondering if I could just chop part of the roots off the bottom and put it back in the same pot as I can't really have a bigger pot than its in now.

    Thankyou.

I did exactly that with a canary palm for a number of years.

Every second year I just used an old hand saw to cut off about 4ins of the bottom mat of roots.

It never seemed to bother it, I just put a couple of inches of fresh compost into the bottom of the pot and an inch or so of fresh stuff as a top dressing and away it would go again.

I have done the same with two Chamaerops and they haven't suffered for it.. This an ongoing problem with palms in pots.
