My very first beans

just picked my first ever runner beans ...….guess what's for tea? Im doing that dancing thing again

 

Nice feeling growing your own food, isn't it Cindy? I was chuffed about the fact that I'd harvested my first asparagus this year and I'm not even the one who planted it, it was just left on my allotment! Only 8 spears but that's all I usually want, TBH. Steamed them and it was the best asparagus I've ever tasted, nothing like the rubbish they sell at supermarkets.

Great result Cindy. Can I suggest you don't harvest them any bigger then this. You don't want those long stringy things on the edges. Oh.. and also leave some on the plant to fully grow and ripen the seeds ready for next years crop.

@capney Thank you for the advice. I shall heed your advice about picking them smallish. Not sure I'll be able to leave any for next year coz I just like them too much. I could honestly eat them everyday and never get fed up but I'll try. TBH I could survive on runner beans, ice cream and cider and not bother with anything else at all. Probably not all in the same bowl though
I bought some runner beans from M&S a few years ago and it said on the packet not to eat them raw. I wrote and asked them why and they never replied. Ive always eaten them raw and still do. yum yum.

Ha ha, in theory they are potentially toxic if eaten in large numbers.
However, I always have done without any side effects. Nobody has dared tell me anyway
I remember a friend’s young son coming here and eating loads and loads of beans and he suffered diarrhoea the next day. My old dog too.....we wondered why he suddenly “had the runs” until we watched him one day helping himself to the beans

Yep, your diet still includes cider! Impressive

 

Isn't it a great feeling @cindy when you pick your home grown goodies...they taste so much better than shop bought..I still do the dancy thing even though I've been growing them for years.
