This has really got me thinking.
I've been asked if I can create a garden feature shaped like a Ladybird in a raised bed
    approx 2 Meters square.
This is to go into an enclosed coutyard which normally egts the sun from mid morning to mid afternoon.
Soil type can be whatever I decide.

My intitial idea is to cut, shape, weld and paint pieces of metal sheet to form the black dots and the head. Then to add some metal legs, again painted black.
    Then interplant with red.
As this is for a childrens hospice I would like the red patches to last as long as possible.
I'm considering all the options including bedding plants, sedums, dwarf roses.

If anyone has any suggestions they will be most welcome.

Bernard, why not construct a Ladybird from metal and paint it ,then mount it above the planting so it won't detract from the visual effect when there is no plant colour. You never know ,folk may just ask you to make one for their own gardens:wink:...and if you start up a business then, being an arc welder, I could earn some extra cash working for you :gnthb::D

Bernard, why not do it all with plants? You could use Iresine for the red and Ophiopogon planiscapus Nigrescens for the spots.:thumb:

    David,
    What an interesting combination.
Have you any suggestions where I can get some to try this out please?
I've got a space in our front garden which would be an ideal test bed.

I tried to "Goggle" them but couldn't find any suppliers in the UK for Iresine.

    Thank you for this.

    Folks,
I got through using kernock.co.uk as the search.
But I can't use their "Contact Us" facility?

    Any thoughts?

    All working fine now David.
I've put an enquiry in with them.
    Many thanks.

    Good luck DaisyDee,
If you get some perhaps we can compare notes later in the year to see how we both got on
    with them?
