apple trees

These are 2 varieties I remember as not being the result of breeding

'Dabinett' probably dates from the early 1900s, when it was found by William Dabinett growing as a wilding (a natural seedling) in a hedge at Middle Lambrook, South Petherton, Somerset.

'Yarlington Mill' was said to have first been discovered as a 'wilding' in 1898 by a Mr. Bartlett, who found it growing out of a wall by the mill-race at Yarlington.



Last year I found a new wild tree growing locally that has produced it's first crop this year, the apple trees in a new local woodland are producing their first apples this year, plus there's several other trees I've previous picked from with a good crop. They will all go into my cider :drunk:

 

I did not mean to cause offense, @ridgiemum . Pollination is basic biology. I do not see anywhere in this thread that you "have absolutely no gardening experience whatsoever" and "are doing this on a shoe string". Perhaps that was in another thread which I missed. Like most people on here, I suspect, I do not read every post but read and sometimes respond to the titles that interest me.

I too have gardened on a shoe string and well understand how you would like to save on the expense.
