When do I get these from garden centre and when to plant.

As for varietys i grew foremost and pentland javelin as earlys which avoided all slug attacks and blight but only becuse they are earlier, for maincrop ive found desiree to suit my needs, they are fairly ignored by slugs and i havent had a problem with blight yet (touch wood) as for planting them its a common idea to chit your seed potatos for around 4-6 weeks first before planting, planting really depends on the climate where you live its fairly mild in n.e.lincs and i planted my potatos in february last year but not by choice i would normally plant earlys and second earlys around mid march to april and mains april onwards this all depends on where you are in the country though. as for buying bnq do have a good offer on at the minute 2 bags for a fiver i would buy earlys february time to plant mid march ive heard main potatos dont really benefit from chitting however i still do and would buy them end of feb begining of march to plant in april onwards, although if you order from a seed catalouge they send them around the right time to start them chiiting or so im told.

    hope this helps

I tried pentland javelin last year for the first time growing potatoes. There were quite a lot of them and they were big an dvery clean --but they turned to mush when boiled. Maybe they're better in chips. I will be growing more tatties this year but not that kind again.

    Contact your local allotment society.

Ours sells to the public / non members, and the prices are very keen.
