I just ordered some but didn't look and see they were THAT small. I have small hands so guess they will be fine for my requirements. :spinning:

        Harvest time! :hapydancsmil:

The spud in a bucket experiment has been unexpectedly successful, we'll have a treat tonight. Butter, fresh dill, salt [IMG]

        potut1.JPG potut.JPG

The free protein aka worm will not be eaten.

The round mini carrots in a washing up bowl are very pretty but extremely "mini". We'll have a handful each and call them Pearl Carrots or Carrot Caviar.

The first bulbs are in, even though it is a bit early. The impossible bed in the front just had to be sorted out- daffs in the bottom, drumstic Alliums next, and a top layer of just rooted fleabane. The Geraniums which had to come up for the work are now in the house and look very cheerful. My previous 40 attempts to save them over the winter have had a success rate of 0%, so I'm very optimistic that now I have finally cracked it :heehee:

Dahlias and Buddleiyas are still going strong but the Gladioli are now done. I'll enjoy the foliage for a while and then dig in the rest of the daffs, I got some quite nice ones from J Parkers Buy Daffodil Sempre Avanti Bulbs | J Parkers

A Finch came to die on the edge of our back lawn which means I can't cut the grass. It's very pretty but I have this childish reluctance of chopping dead bodies with a lawnmower, and can't even move it. I trust that the rooks will come to my assistance.

Now off to start a meat stew for tomorrow's lunch. :)

Today was the last opportunity this week I had to do a bit of painting of the woodwork in the garden, as rain is expected tomorrow.
So I painted the tea-house and the pergola rail to the side of the former koi pool, now our "rose patio."

I didn't paint the top of the pergola as there's too much wisteria foliage in the way. I've also left the big pergola on the back of the house for the same reason. They will have to wait for a dry day in November.
None of it really needed doing, but another coat always brings back the shine. I'm always in favour of doing this re-paint before it needs doing, as if it did, some rot might have already set in.

I've been doing cuttings for most of the day. Never used a liquid rooting hormone before. I must have dipped my fingers in the solution too often...couldn't move my feet and had to get OH to shift me :roflol: Seriously....@pete's promised Lantana montevidensis and black Lagerstroemia, some Hymenosporum flavum, Dregea sinensis....they all got the treatment  It'll be interesting to see if it works. The powder never did.

Never heard of a liquid rooting hormone...?

But that reminds me of my husband's kindly comments when he found a tub of rooting hormone powder in the cupboard under the stairs and deduced that females at certain age must take steps to ensure of their feminine wellbeing. :th scifD36:

Anyways, please always wash your hands after dipping fingers in anything before dipping fingers in anything :heehee:

Hi @noisette47 - I use the liquid hormone Clonex. There appear to be 2 different hormones and I remember reading some tests that said the indole butyric acid was best. Anyway, apparently Clonex is used by cannabis growers (so I've read!) so it is probably good! I also remember Christopher Lloyd saying to throw away any over a year old as it's not effective then.

Emptied and cleaned out some pots and then starting cutting down some of the cannabis from the raised beds. Got a few stems trimmed and hanging to dry. I've got some spots on the lawn that are very dry and turning brown so I hand watered using the rain barrel water. I hope it helps some.

Ripped the front lawn up during the week , been moving the turf and barrowing in soil from my old turf stack today . Got a bit of a sweat on today in the glorious sun shine  , need some bags of sand and top soil before I reseed it , its getting a bit late for sowing but I optimistic that it will germinate maybe :fingers crossed:

Those pieces of turf look better than 95% of my lawns!

We were out, visiting a garden, yesterday but spent a couple of hours in the evening harvesting and picking up windfalls. Completely rotten apples and pears in the recycle bins, partly rotten ones on the compost heaps, best bruised ones boxed waiting to be cooked over the next few days with three buckets of them put aside for people coming to pick them up, and picked ones boxed and stored waiting until we've dealt with the bruised ones. :phew:

I've been had! Must admit I didn't notice that the product I bought is 'bio', so probably ground-up willow leaves :gaah: As everything even remotely effective in the way of gardening products have been withdrawn from sale here, will have a look on Amazon UK! Thanks for the info, CarolineL!

After a day of birthday festivities yesterday today is a quiet reflective day. A bit of reading in the sunshine maybe. The ground is too hard and compacted to do any planting but with rain expected later the coming week may be more productive:)
