    Hello,

I was checking out "IE" this evening and opened up the temporary internet files.

I was amazed just how many there was, with little information what they were.

With the exception of ones from The Daily Telegraph, of which there was dozens!

When I clicked on any, a box came up with a warning "" Running a system command on this item may be unsafe. Do you wish to continue."

As I did not know the dangers, I just exited, PDQ.

My question is, would it be safe to delete the lot off them?

I know they will start filling up again once I start searching afterwards!

    Thanks for any info.

    Cheers !

Your best bet is to use something like CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) Which is a completely free tool to help remove unwanted temporary files from all over windows, In fact lots of people on the forums including me use this particular program:gnthb:

I think in IE, there is an option to automatically clear temporary internet files as soon as you exit. They are usually harmless, and their purpose is just to save you time by not having to download the same files again if you visit the same sight later.

On IE in the top right hand side of the Task Bar is the word Tools. Click on it! This brings up a Menu. Click on the bottom one, Internet Options. Click on Advanced (top right hand side). Scroll Down until you see in small letters the Word Security. The eighth box down says Empty all Temp, Internet files when Browser is closed. Tick this box. Then Click on Apply. Click on OK to close the menu. You may have to re start IE for this to take effect, but this will stop you having a disc full of these things.

Similarly in "SeaMonkey", Mozilla's new Internet suite. Go to Tools/Cookie Manager and you get a list of the cookies, to delete individual cookies highlight that one and delete. There is also a box for "Delete all cookies", it does not require a re-start.

Hang on, Cookies are not necessarily the same as Temp Internet Files. If you delete Cookies you can remove any stored passwords as well.
If you want to keep your Temp internet files then in IE, go to Tools, Delete Browsing History, the top section allows one to Delete Temp Int files. This only removes those added up to that point. No restart is needed.

Doesn't it just show the differences between these programs? In IE History is a list of the websites one has visited recently (usually stored for 20 days, the default setting. This can be altered). This is useful if you need to find a site which you have not added to Favourites (Bookmarked). Or if you are checking up on where someone has been looking! It is not the same as Temp Int Files. If needed though you can empty the History file in Tools. Deleting TI files does not clear out History, or vice versa.
