    thanks for all your replys

well its not just me then !

i swop providers all the time but at the mo no one is any cheaper than scottishpower so have decided to stick with them,

i was paying by direct debit untill last sept which i was £140 in credit and they wanted to put my bill up from £96 to £124 i rang them up and told them no way and they should look at the fact that they have £140 of my money and they are not putting it up !

the woman said that there is nothing she can do and it has to go up due to increases and winter consumpsion which i had'nt used yet !

i told her if she put it up i will move and she said ok !

so i told her right send me the £140 back i will pay by card every 3 months when the bill comes in she did'nt like that and said you will loose your discount every quarter which i asked how much that was and she said (how without laughing) £6.54p

to which i said im sure i will cope !

i think everyone should stop paying by direct debit if every house hold is in credit £300-£400 just think of the interest these companys are making.

i take a reading every week and what i have used i put in a seperate account and i get interest on it now .

the reason i do this is like i said i got stung with £800 bill 3 yrs back i was estimated for 12 months and prices went rocketing so it will never happen again to me.

i did hear that prices were coming down this yr and the goverment was getting involved as companys are just been greedy well i hope it happens soon i don't want another £490 bill in 3 months time

Sounds like you are on top of the cheapest deals cattwoman - all you would lose is £6.54 what a joke!

I know what you are saying about Direct Debits, I have an accountant friend who works for the utilities - he says that one of their biggest revenue earners is getting people to pay up front (by DD) - its money in the bank for them. If you are well organised and can put the cash aside every month into an interest earning account and then pay your bill every quarter then you might be better off. Trouble is I'm not very well organised and can't get to the bank very easily outside work hours, so I like DD for the convienience.

Ive also read somewhere recently that the utilliy companies are going to start charging for paper billing (£5) to try and make cutomers pay their bills on line. I think thay are just getting to big for their boots and need to be brought down a peg or to. If you phone them these days they tend to be quite flippant if you start asking questions they dont like. They want you to pay up and shut up no questions asked.:pcpunch: 02

I quite like the idea of paperless billing - saving the planet and all that. In a way the utilities have already been charging for paper bills, because if you go paperless they give you a discount. I don't like phoning them unless I really have to, those robot answering machines drive me barmy and even when you get through to a human they never seem much use.

They will Never in a month of Sundays get my Father to change to doing it all on-line, because he refuses to even try a computer. Perhaps if we ALL refuse to do as they want, they will get the hint? If I get charged for a paper bill, I will charge them a fee of £10 a time to pay it to on-line.
