Black trough definitely frost you can tell by the plants still being green . Wind scorch would turn the leaves brown edged.

Disagree. I have seen worse wind damage recover well. And it is wind damage. Time will tell of course.

@Telmadee it could be frost, I can't see it very well on my phone, do you have places where it gets frosty more than others?

@Logan thank you for your reply, the only time I noticed a tiny bit of frost was in april, but the frost tends to be pretty evenly spread when it does come, both these troughs were at different area of the garden. I have taken them back inside my greenhouse now and just hoping that they do all survive.

You also have to take into consideration other factors too at this time of year @Telmadee .

Plants in pots/ tubs will chill quicker than those in the ground.

Position... After a chilly night young plants placed in a position that allows them to catch the early morning sunshine may struggle to adapt to these sudden sharp rises/falls in temperature. And their immature leaves will undoubtedly succumb to both frost and wind damage.

The key is to harden them off well and don't skimp on this. Do it gradually over a couple of weeks .

I do Molly Coddle mine I know, but I always think of the time and effort I have spent ,sowing, pricking out , potting on ,pinching out before placing them in their final homes.

Take your time....and they will reward you with their beautiful blooms.:dbgrtmb:
