image.jpg My Beauty of Livermere poppy has looked awful this year. I’ve just checked on it and a piece came away with a small stump of root. There are lots of crawlies at the base, slugs, woodlice, minute critters and lots about 2mm long, brown in colour. Any ideas as to what has happened? It’s been gorgeous the last few years. image.jpg Surely that pesky slug pictured can’t be responsible for this

Could be a victim of the wet winter and started to rot at soil level and then the creepy crawlies moved in.
I would wait awhile and see if it picks up. The other point is that you can propagate from root cuttings, if you remove one the remaining roots can shoot so even if the main plant passes away you may find shoots coming up later in the summer.
