I've been close to dogs all my life. For several years I used some of my spre time to assist with an animal rescue center. FAOL FARM. Folk would visit the establishment in Biggin Hill, and of course immediately wanted to take all the animals home. A perfectly natural feeling foe ant animal lover. However this feeling has to be seriously considered and dealt with. Like the car stickers. A Dog is not just for Christmas.

In a way, IMO. Bringing a pet, especially a dog into the family is somewhat like the wife giving birth to your first child. In the latter. Dad/Hubby sometimes feels that he is now taking second place. This is very similar to adopting a pet.

At one time. Believe it or not, but the healthiest dogs were mongrels, 'Heinze Varieties'. Now since the laws have clamped down, there are less mongrels around.

Let's consider a few facts. Doggy, once home needs a secure home. So the garden MUST be secure. I mention this because, believe it or not. I have done some vetting, where the proposed adopter lived in a block of flats. No garden and wanted a GSD. Both adults out at work all day. Means of exercising the dog. A ten minute walk on the lead, around the streets. Thius would get a big NO from me.

WE have to comsider the needs and wants of a pet, much like our own. Fair do's, an animal in a strange place mightwell have a sanitary accident. Be honest. Even us humans, can experience like situations. How you deal with a mishap, how you treat the pet. This is very important. This might be the start for you to devote tme to train the pet., Thne as a garden lover. Doggy goes and craps on your cabbage patch. What do you do. So inb some kind of perspective. Doogy teaches us and we teach doggy. Are we prepared to give this a go?

I had three dogs from the rescue farm. One a Black Lab X Then two GSD's. No problems.
Then I think, perhaps your image might come into it. Do you want a lap dog, or a dog that tends to advertise you are protected?

Retrievers incuding the ordinary Labs. Great animals. Very loyal. Often forcing their affections onto you. Very faithful. Requiring lots of exercise. Take care with their diet.

GSD's great working dogs. Despite their so-called ancestery. These dogs are great with children. Treated right and handled correctly. Have no fear. They are very intelligent and loyal. They must have plenty of exercise, as due to their breeding. The shaping of the body, lack of exercise will cause the pelvis to collapse and the hind legs to fail, then sadly the animal will have to be put down.
Collies. I have owned GSD's and a Border Collie. Lasy was a pup when I got her. She came from farming stock ans later showed she had most of the rounding up etc in her blood. Very lively animal. Way out of this world on intelligence. Very protective to the wife.

Spanials. It is considered. Cross breed a spaniel with a collie. Man that is one crazy dog. The King Charles Spaniel is a lap dog. The Cocker is a right mad un. Great intellegence is there, and they are trained in drug etc detection. As pets, they are always so active ans could drive you around the bend. Lots of exercice, and lots of grooming.

He's adorable, I know 2 owners have a Romanian resue dog and the centres are great. One of the dogs was very quiet for a long time and started to come out of his shell. But he hasn't got very bad issues and the owner knows what to do because he's had dogs before. The oother one don't see very often but he's settling in very well.
With a rescue it's better if you have experience of owning a dog before and that's what you've got @Fat Controller.:)
Do you know how big he's going to get?

            Thank you @Logan

We don't sadly - the more I see of him, the more Labrador I see, so I reckon that sort of size is a reasonable assumption. In theory, we could have him DNA tested apparently, but why waste £140? It is not as though we would love him any more or any less knowing the result. As long as he is safe and becomes a happy wee soul, all is good.

To be honest, size is not the problem I'd rather have a fairly docile big un than a mad little un.

Aye, he is a wee bomb of cuteness for sure, and in the videos I have seen of him in transit, he seems quite calm which is good.

His new lead, tag, toys, bed, travel duvet, food, puppy pads are all sitting ready to go and I am going to take time off work just to be with him whilst he settles in - even if it is just nattering to him so he gets used to the sound of our voices, I think it helps. He won't be short of love, warmth or food in this house that is for sure.

Paw size is usually a good indication of how big a dog will grow.

And a pair of your old socks that have been worn so have your smell on them - for overnight, they seem to give puppies comfort. We did that with all our family puppies in the past. :)
