Thought I'd let all my friends on here know what I have been up to, or more like what Wazzakins and I have been up to.

On the 20th Dec, Saturday, my hunky husband decided to go get the decorations out of the loft because we thought it was time we got into the Christmas spirit and put the decorations up, plus we had friends coming to visit so wanted to make the house look festive. He (the hunky husband) rattled about in the loft for a while, handed me the Christmas decorations boxed and then told me that he was going to have a look at the rest of the loft (I dunno what for :cnfs:) so I left him to it and carried the boxes down to the lounge and I had only managed to put the Christmas teddy on the mantlepiece when I heard a sound like something breaking so ran to the bottom of the stairs to see what he was up to.....only to see him coming out of the loft the quick way :dh:and my mind, in slow motion....is thinking....Duh!!!! that is not normal....
He landed on his tail pn the bannister on the upstairs landing and promptly toppled over and started to come down the stairs...head first. To say that his life flashed before my eyes or my life flashed before my eyes would be an understatement.

Wazzakins is 6' tall and well built and he was thundering towards the bottom of the stairs whit his neck bent at a funny angle, head first....

So I did the only thing I could think of doing, I ran up towards him to stop him, which I sort of did, but we then both crashed to the bottom of the stairs but I knew that at least he was not going to crash down head first.
My first reaction was....all is ok and he will stand up in a minute and tell me to get on with it....but no, he did not, he crawled away from me on all fours and crawled back to the hallway and collapsed there, saying that his back hurt.

I somehow managed to get hold of the phone and called the ambulance.

I must say, they were relly quick, we had a Paramedic at our door in less then 2 minutes and an ambulance within 3 minutes. They decided to get Wazzakins on a long board because they did not dare move him any other way. They too suspected a broken back.

Anyway, we were both taken to the A&E, he has a trauma team there to check him out straight away because of the suspected back injury and he was given loads of morphine which sent him off with the fairies.....

Me, I sat there and watched him go la-la....all his x-rays came back clear
I watched my right knee swell up in front of my eyes and when it was x-rayed they told me that all I had done was pulled the ligaments and that all was OK.

I could not believe that Wazzakins had fallen out of the loft and not broken any bones and nor had I.
    Lucky or what???

I had an appointment on Monday where they now tell me that I have a fracture in my knee. :-(((

Wazzakins is getting better by the day and taking long walks because it eases the pain in his tail.
Me, I have not done a single thing I planned to do over the Christmas holidays. Panadols and Co-codamols have become my good friends...

I am so thankful that this ended the way it did, it cold have been a lot lot worse. We have some great friends wo have been doing all the running about for us for the last ten days.
I'm still not driving but Wazzakins did have a go at driving the car the other day and says that it is not too bad for him.

He was meant to be working all thru the Christmas break, instead of which he has been home since the 20th and like me, likely to be home for another week or two.

The nice thing was that all his mates from work came over to have a good giggle at him and even his Chief Inspector popped in to see him and promised not to laught at him...and offered to have us over for Christmas Day.

Moral of the story: Wazzakins is banned ever from going in the loft.

What a tale of terror. That must have been really awful for both of you.
As you say the outcome could have a lot worse.
I am really glad that you both appear to be OK and will recover to do it all again next year..
    Celebrate christmas that it!!!

    Update:

Back at work on Monday and the knee is slowly mending.
MRI scan did not show up any more damage except for the fracture which will heal with time. I have Physio. booked so that should help me some.

Wazzakins will be back at work on the 24th but he will certainly not be doing long stints drivng the partol car.

I will slowly try to catch up on this forum.

Have plenty on at work since there were new projects in the pipeline. Managed to get to work for 5 am yesterday and plan to do that a couple of days in the week till I'm up to date.

I missed not logging on to GC but then with the pain killers and the rest....my brain has curdled and I was better off just staring at something on TV.

Nice to be back though. :yho:

Shobhna I'm horrified to hear of your Christmas experience when I first read your opening lines I thought your beloved had spotted a rat or something in the loft I mean those guys pretend to be very macho but we all know looks can be so deceiving!:hehe:

When I read the rest of the story I was stunned what happened to you both talk about bad luck and at Christmas too how rotten is that? I'm really glad that you both seem to be made of rubber it could have been so much worst for you both. Wazzakins was incredibly lucky to have you cushion his fall and I'm glad to hear you're both on the mend.:)Hel.xxx.

I'm really sorry to read your story Shobhna, but glad there is no long term injury. It was lucky you were there to help him and to break his fall - even if it meant you came off worse - he owes you big time for this :hehe:
