I believe Boris has already told them where to go on that one.

We also make Brie - arguably as good or better than French Brie apparently, so whilst Tesco are whining that the cost of Brie will rise by 40%, most sensible folks will just to to Aldi/Lidl who are selling the British stuff.... I wouldn't know, as I don't like Brie

A tariff of 57% sounds a bit steep to me.
        Are they really that stupid?

Imagine how much that is going to make stuff coming into this country if we do the same.
We would be forced to find other suppliers outside the EU.

He has, but the EU seems determined to keep raising it so that they can delay the fishing situation. So, this new "after no deal"" proposal of keeping connectivity of Land and Air is to show the World how nice they are while forgetting to mention they've tried to add a back door extension about ignoring Sovereignty and a change in the Fishing quotas.:wallbanging:

The thing is, the rest of the world can see them for exactly what they are now - trying to strongarm the UK into staying in what is tantamount to an abusive relationship. Macron, refusing resolutely to budge on fishing has successfully managed to have his fleet locked out entirely as of 1st January.... and now I read that "Poland and Hungary" won't be welcome in the bloc for much longer as they refuse to follow the rules. At this rate, it is going to be France and Germany left.

Apparently Boris is not allowed to talk to Macron or Merkel.
                The EU wont allow it.

They don't want Macron and Merkel hearing it from the horses mouth - that way, they when the likes of VDL speaks with them they can keep pointing the finger at Boris and the UK.

Truthfully, I think the no deal situation was signed, sealed and delivered over their meal in Brussels the other night and they are just playing 'chicken' now to see who will publicly call it first. That will have to be the EU to allow Boris to say that he negotiated in good faith to the bitter end and way past his deadline of October 15th, to allow him to trigger the various bills he wants to.

Deal or no deal one things for sure...price rise scaremongering.

Maybe people will now buy more seasonal foods and home produced/grown foods if imports rocket in price . Cutting down on the old food miles helping the enviroment ?

Yes, Somerset Brie is much better than French. :)

I can't stand Brie but it's only a name and most cheeses can be replicated with no trouble at all. Extra strong cheddar is my favourite but few other countries produce similar as it's just not got the home market for it. Lots of people over here like brie so there's a good market for it - especially if the French stuff becomes expensive.

Mrs Shiney likes cooking with Paneer but buys a UK produced one instead of Indian.

I think the French fishermen are not happy with a no deal either.
With a deal they get to fish in our waters under our terms, in a no deal they dont get to fish here at all.
As for cheese, since I cant get my favourite Somerset crunch anymore I've gone back to the cheddar that I have bought for years, Canadian, and its no more expensive than than others and probably a lot cheaper than the fancy "continental cheeses", well they call them cheese anyway.;)

I think we might find a much greater variety of fruit and veg available in supermarkets after we leave.
They produce good produce within the EU, but I doubt that it is always the best available, and I'm sure lots of other non EU countries are growing stuff that is equal if not better.
