The best Fish and Chips shop and restaurant I came across was when with friends at Saltby-by-the Sea where it was on the small sea front near the Pier, people were queuing to get in just to the Restaurant.........beautiful meal!!!

When we visited Whitby, we ended up at the ‘Quayside’ chippy. Very nice. They even had a board up specifying which potatoes (variety) were used for the chips.

Nortech still make it and I'm sure there are other makes too. I think Atora used to do 100% beef dripping.

Nortech Foods | New technology behind traditional tastes

Apart from the added flavour beef fat has a higher smoke point than a lot of the vegetable oils. It is also a slower smoke point so the combination is a crunchier and tastier chip. :blue thumb:

I don't fry chips at home but never forgot my training in the kitchen. :heehee:

Same in E Yorkshire, if you ask for fish and chips you get Haddock. In Surrey if you ask for fish and chips you get Cod. I much prefer Haddock, much tastier.

My Dad loved condensed milk sandwiches and I fancy one now remenicising about it. Used to have condensed milk on all our deserts in those days called 'afters'. The best afters were Yorkshire puddings with golden syrup or black treacle at a pinch.

Mrs JWK comes from Essex and they have similiar for starters, called "light boiled pudding', same batter as Yorkshire puddings boiled with sugar.

I eat cod, but do prefer haddock,
A few years ago we, (the workshop) went out for lunch to the local chip shop.
Two of us a asked for haddock, the rest had cod.
The haddock had to be cooked special, when I got mine I couldn't even cut it with a knife, managed to hack a bit off the end and it was like eating rubber.

I sent it back, and the reply was "its like rubber" to which I replied yeah that what I said.

To which they said, "cant understand it, it all came out of the same box".:dunno:

Piece of useless information #266 - I used to live just across the road from the Carnation milk factory which made the evaporated milk as well as coffee mate and other powdered drinks etc that used milk powders. It was a very interesting place to visit.

I couldn't count the times Ive had Yorkshire pudding with golden syrup on. Reason being I used to forget the Yorkshire was still in the oven when I served the Sunday roast. I do it on purpose now ha ha! Just love it.
Condensed milk is my 'very guilty secret' weakness. If there is a tin left open from baking something, everytime I walk past the fridge a tsp full or so  launches itself into my mouth with no thought for the consequences whatsoever. I adore it. Cold and thick and gooey. You can buy it in squeezy tubes now which is nectar to me. Im surprised I dont fall into sugar comas with regularity.
I was also a 'Carnation' baby. It was the thing to feed bottle fed babies. Can you imagine what the health visitors would say these days? They'd have a fit!. I can still drink it from the tin..... I forgot just how uncouth I am. I sometimes wonder if I have forgotten how to behave in company:yikes:

The best ever fish and chips that I've ever had was from my Nan and Grandad's local chippie in Hampton. My favourite fish from there was Rock Salmon....their batter was to die for, so scrummy.
Gosh I could really eat some now!!
