      Go to a fish monger or down the coast and you still get it.
      Other species of dog fish are included I think, but not just about everything.
      I can sometimes get it even in Morrison's.

            Last bought in Dungeness, but I still see it.
            Dont buy it much myself as I prefer others, but skate is another fish that is still around but not often seen unless you go to a proper fishmonger.

              Ooh I love a bit of skate. It's my grandmas favourite. There's a lovely little old pub/restaurant called the Ship Inn at Barnoldby-le-Beck near Grimsby....they do fantastic skate if you order it in advance. I'm drooling!

                Funny thing rig and chips, depended on the age, and the region, and the chippy, rock and chips, for a fisherman, the fish was several species related to the shark, bull huss, dog fish and even Ling (rock salmon), but the 70's was a wierd time, nowdays as on the continent Scampi is Languastine, but in UK pubs and resturants, Scampi was made from Monk fish tails.so it depends on the age and region.

                      @Upsydaisy

                      Whoa! I think I went to that chippy years ago. My Grandparents lived in Hampton and I kind of remember going to a chippy near the station - would that have been your family shop?

                            Spurdogs used to be sold as 'rock salmon but they were almost fished out (familiar story?) and now there's no quota.

                            Greater Spotted Dogfish (GSD) AKA (Bull) Huss are probably the species most used nowadays.

                            Lesser Spotted Dogfish (LSD) are smaller than GSD, but I find them more sweet and tender.

                            Some other species are prone to smelling of ammonia.

                                Is that because it still has a green glow Pete?

                                Used to ride my motorbike all the way down there right to the pub/cafe at the end of the track that was almost touching distance from Dungeness power station.
