I'm planning on cooking a Pork Joint tomorrow to see how crispy it makes the crackling because I just love crackling.

Perfect pork crackling, weight the meat, cook at 230 for 30 mins, reduce to 180, and cook for 30 mins a llb, or 450g, wrap the meat for 10 mins, remove skin/cracling, put back cracklin back in oven skin side down 220 for 10 mins, rest for 10 mins in foil, break up and salt, its like hot pork scratchins.

I cooked a kilo pork, (2.2lbs), joint using the Ninja Max Air Fryer, for the very first time, this afternoon and, I have to say, despite all the praise that's been heaped on Air Fryers, I was a bit unsure as to what good they would be.:dunno:
I used part of Cuttings recommended recipe and a bit of others so I cooked the joint for 15 minutes at 200C in Air Fryer mode and then put the Air Fryer on Roast mode, (190C), and gave it two 30 minutes cooking periods, then let it rest for 10 minutes. Well, as I said, I wasn't expecting much and cut the first still warm slice and.......
I've have never had a Roast Pork as succulent, sweet, and totally more-ish, and beyond words tasty as that first slice was.:hate-shocked: So, I'm converted and sold on Air Fryers and doubt if I will ever use the Oven or Micro Wave for cooking again.:heehee:
I looked at a few of the Videos about cooking with Air Fryers and one of the tips was to place a little water in the bottom of the Air Fryer as it takes up the dripping fat etc and makes cleaning easier and that worked too. So, the next is a nice thick Steak with onions once I've ate the rest of the Pork Joint and, no, there's none to spare.:nonofinger::heehee:

I use a similar technology in an Halogen oven, I was not sure to begin with, but roast all meat in it now, Jacket spuds, even pastries, steaks need a bit of practice, especially if you like yours blue, rare or medium rare, but excellent if you like crisp Bacon. But my favourite is a baked Camenbert with garlic and rosmary and shoulder of pork, either cooked as mentioned, or turn the temp down to 160C and cook a 2.5kg joint for 4.5 hours, rest for 30 mins, pull the pork apart with 2 forks, excellent pulled pork, drizzled with homemade BBQ or sweet and sour sauce.

I think Ill look into air fryers now. I know ZERO about them. My only concern is Im sure they are not cheap and is it worth it when only cooking for 1.
I cant actually remember when I last had proper real crackling it was so many years ago.

I also am interested in air fryers; a friend said hers gives good results - on chips - but was very slow..... I shall read this thread for more information!

I'm trying to find out how they work.

Atm I just get the impression of a miniature fan oven.
But maybe I have the wrong idea?
I was looking at probably going for one of the smaller ones.

As for crackling my teeth are not up to that any more.

Hi JJ, Homemade Chips made from your own potatoes takes 20 minutes:dunno:, which I think is pretty good and they are so more tasty that bags of chips from the Store. The only slow bit is peeling the Potatoes, leaving the Chips in a pan of water for 20 minutes to get rid of the excess Starch but the taste is so worth it.:love30::thumbsup:

That sounds good Armandii - it would take longer than 20 minutes for oven to heat up and then do the cooking (I don't have, or want, a deep fat fryer.)

OK, so I'm not bothered about the health side of things, but I do want something that is a bit more versatile than the deep fat fryer I use just for chips.
Also a bit less messy to clean.

I have a combination microwave, so that works as a fan oven as well, or oven and microwave combined. Its good for roasting stuff.

I'm still trying to work out how these work?
And if they will be any advantage over what I already have.
