      I must try one sometime - I have never tasted a medlar, somewhat embarrassingly

        the only medlers I know live 2 doors away and are right busy bodies...
        seriously though Im ashamed to say I dont even know what a medler is in regard to a food item.

          Really glad they're sorted.

          I get fed up with apples after I've pressed 1,000 lbs (and really fed up after 2,000) and fed up with blackberries after I've picked and processed 300 lbs.

          Same with sweet peas after we've filled two vases in every room in the house every 3 days for weeks, plus given dozens of bunches to friends and neighbours.

          Then there's masses of foraged walnuts and hazelnuts to shell that take many evenings of work.

          And coming back from Mackerel fishing in Dorset with up to 200 fish caught per tide to gut, fillet, pack and freeze.

          Glad when it's all over, but that's when loads of other stuff starts.

          EDIT: Forgot pitting foraged cherries, de-stoning cherry plums and de-stalking elderberries as other chores when I'm glad they're finished.

              @Scrungee I am always amazed at the amount of food and other essentials you amass. I wouldn't have room to store even 10% of your bounty!

                I freeze a lot of my fruit that I grow and do some jams if there's too much to freeze,this year the jams were redcurrant and gooseberry.

                  First picking from the local trees, only 1lb 10ozs.

                  Cherry ice-cream, cherry yoghurt and cherry cakes to start with.

                    The birds always got to our cherries before they were ripe so :mad:, 40 years ago, I removed our two cherry trees and replaced them with apples. The birds don't get those :heehee:

                    Yesterday I bought 2lb of lovely sweet big black cherries from the market stall for £1.75. So you've saved a reasonable amount of money. :blue thumb:

                      The birds always have ours too. Hubs says every year that he's going to remove ours, but I do like to see the blossom. I think this will definitely be their last year though.:sad:
