My wife and I moved into our new home back in December. The rear edge of the garden features a natural Devon bank lined by approx. 16 trees. Now seems to be the right time to call on the services of our local tree surgeons to give our lovely trees a prune.

After reading a few days ago, I found information stating I should check with my council for the existence of any TPO's. The interactive map on our council website shows the below TPO, approximately over our back garden. However, the final detail of the TPO says "Date revoke 4/27/2006". So does this actually mean the TPO has been cancelled since this date, and that the listing is purely a historic entry?

I was not made aware of any TPO on our property (no such observation made by our solicitor back in November).

Unfortunately, I am unable to tell what all the tree are, but pretty sure none of them are Popular trees. I can only imagine these were removed/replaced years ago. All I can identify (so far), are Willow and Hazel behind the shed, and a large oak covered in ivy behind the palm. Not sure how to distinguish which may be Elm.

Thank you @Loofah. It may sound silly, but I'm new to this kind of terminology and I don't like to take legal things for granted.

Never should! I always think that councils especially like to be as confusing as possible so it's prudent to double check. I don't understand it as if they made the statements clear then the public wouldn't have to take their time in asking questions

I was always told that it was in the Civil Service (quite often, in my experience, a total misnomer) handbook to obfuscate wherever possible :loll:

With apologies to any who are members :love30: :)

I have had a lot of dealings with local and national departments over many years and have a number of apologies on file (including from three Ministers :rolleyespink:). I must admit things are a lot better nowadays since the attempt to bring in Plain Language Communications. At least they seem to have dropped signing off with "Your Obedient Servant" even when they are threatening you.
