We'll have to go back to growing more shrubs again :rolleyespink: and charge more than £2.50 for a 2 or 3 year old one. :blue thumb:

If I know anything about development and railways they won't be planting trees as such.
It will just be a load of shrubbery stuff all planted two feet apart, so as to make the numbers up.
The railways have just spent years chopping down millions of trees because they don't like leaves.

        Can anyone explain this please.

We were sitting outside in the peace and quiet and suddenly there was this "explosion" sound. We thought a branch of the Almond tree fell ... as two had done so in the last couple of weeks. This is what it was ... an "implosion" of the passenger rear window of the Kia Estate. T'other Half Knocked the rest out and vacuumed. We live in the middle of nowhere, Any ideas?

Was the glass shattered over a wide area, if yes, then maybe someone or something has hit it. If not, then probably the window had been chipped or cracked sometime previously or the glass had a defect when fitted. Vibrations while driving, plus the opening and shutting of doors plus increase and decrease in temperature will eventually cause the window to shatter.

 :what: I don't understand your theories. Please look at picture.

We live in the middle of thousands of orange trees which you may not know. We have more Collared Doves which live around here than people. No known defects. The car has survived 17 years of intense heat at times and no known frost.

            Any more guesses?

Temperature I reckon - was the sun beating down on the car - a closed car can get roasting inside even in old Blighty. I just had the rear spring replaced on my old Peugeot - garage reckon it snapped because of the frosts we've had - the spring was 14 years old and has been through many a Winter no problem. I'd lean towards simple wear and tear - just like my knees .

Thanks for responding @clanless but although we got to 22c today the car was in the shade as it normally is. Both T'other Half and I (particularly me with a replaced knee) had a laugh at your last comment. :rolleyespink:

A close by electrical cable will cause that damage to car and other toughened glass

Sometimes if someone has been welding or a angle grider spark hit the window (when at a garage etc) and melting into the glass can cause something like that even if the spark hit many year ago, glass got weak then goes bang

Can Your Auto Glass Spontaneously Break? (msglassoutlet.com)

I reckon sometime the window has had a chip from a stone from a passing car, you might not have even know it had happened. Over time the glass will have weakened and eventually it will go.

I know your window is a side window, but when a rear window shatters its mainly due to an electrical spike to the heating elements in the window.

Thank you for all your thoughts. T'other Half will phone insurance tomorrow but don't think it will be covered so will take to glass repair shop and see if they have any thoughts. I will come back and let everyone know. Boa noite.

Glass can occasionally have tiny flaws (especially safety glass that is used in vehicles) and it can lie dormant for years until one day it decides to let go. It can be tiny - really tiny (head of a pin) but when that lets its stress go on safety glass the whole pane will shatter into tiny little pieces (exactly as it is intended, for safety) -- triple laminated glass tends can also 'let go' but it tends to suddenly develop huge lines/cracks. I had a bus windscreen do it right in front of my eyes once - sat on a stand, engine off and all of a sudden there was this little noise and I watched as huge long lines appeared right up the windscreen.

No. that is not it at all boys.

Daniel Craig parachuted into her drive in hopes of catching @Victoria alone so he could try to make love to her but when he saw her husband was there, he slammed his fist against the window in frustration, and left.

The other reasons are very plausible but I like this one better.. ;)
