Got about a tonne if compost shifted and now the wind has got up too much and its rainy and I'm shattered-so will continue another day-probably saturday now.

Guess I could so a bit of housework instead....or stay in the greenhouse

        No, they certainly aren’t!!
They are still only about 8” tall, so it is a little early to be planting them out. But I’m trying to reduce the load for my non-gardener husband. Eventually, though, they do tumble rather nicely, and are a tasty mini-tom.

Its raining cats and dogs so I've been in the greenhouse today potting on petunias and the odd other thing , the bedding plants are a good 2-3week behind still. My apple tree starting to get some blossom on I were wondering if it ever were going to flower this year . I've been doing some planning on whats going in hanging baskets and made a list of things to get from the garden centre .

I managed to repot a Hebe and tidy things up and had T'other Half move things around (pots, I move them like furniture)) and he watered everything.

Diddly squat. Fully expect everything on the garden table that's covered in pots will be clear by morning as it's blowing a hoolie!

Just watching the Hare in field opposite taking a long shower and very thorough wash :wub2:. Rain started yesterday morning about same time and hasn't stopped yet. Also had gale force winds yesterday, which have lessened a bit now.

Day before yesterday was lovely weather. I dug up a large Geranium from the cherry tree bed with the intention of removing the couch grass that had attached itself. However, quickly realised that wasn't possible. Will have to find something else to plant in the space. Weeded out a few more bits of couch grass from the bed. Removed spent compost from a whiskey barrel type pot, back filled with soil and compost before planting a Dill and a Coriander. Removed one of the mini pond plants and put it into a double planter with a white Myosotis I bought at the hardware store.

You need to live in this area. No rules at all apart from Shineyland rules. :blue thumb: :heehee:

We seem to have been doing a lot this week but with little to show for it.

Now that we've had some rain (not a fantastic amount) the lawns have decided to take the pee out of me by growing an inch immediately after I've gone over them with the mower  The mower has put in a petition for overtime rates and I can hear the weeds laughing at me all around the garden.

The weeds are growing much faster than we would ever have a chance of digging/pulling them out but the saving grace is that the 'proper' plants are also growing fast and hiding them :)

Mrs Shiney has spent a lot of the time, as usual, sowing, potting on etc. I've been struggling to dig out the weeds (couch grass, nettles, thistles etc.) that have grown through the chicken wire that is around the veg area and buried for 6" all around it. Digging out those weeds means reinstating the buried wire.

I bought a new 100m ball of organic twine to continue making the overhead netting for the bean ShineyFrames but found it consisted of 3m lengths :mute:. I was passing the trade warehouse where I bought it (on our way to see a garden where we had been asked to give advice on some planting) and got it swapped for three 50m balls of poly garden twine. Then, when home, I almost finished one of the overheads. An hour of two of working with my arms over my head and my neck bent, looking up, is all that my creaking muscles can manage without a couple of hours 'feet up, cuppa and book' time. :old:

Filled three wheelie bins with weeds (now emptied and we've started refilling them so that they don't feel lonely with no weeds to talk to.

People are now coming round to pick up their bean orders so a cuppa and chinwag is a refreshing break. Another 200 should be picked up in the next few days and the last few hundred should go over the bank holiday. :phew:

It's raining again so nothing to do in the garden, but next week should be better.

Oh Shiney - I would LOVE to have you both as my neighbours - it would be heaven!:wub2: I hope Mrs Shiney is doing ok - not had much chance to email as been so busy

Was supposed to be taking an order of 2 trees today but theyve rung to say they were damaged in transit - so next week now. The wind is manic - I'll go check my lotty hasnt blown away and maybe do some greenhouse work in between housework.

Certainly doesn't look like I'll be doing much today apart from popping out to get some sharp sand and possibly preparing a soil mix for my eryngiums with it, not much chance of planting them, tho! Despite several years of attempting to amend it, my heavy clay still easily compacts when too wet! :wallbanging: Digging in straw in the new border has really helped but I still have a long way to go, much cheaper and better than grit tho, as the effect of that appears to be negligible unless one uses very large quantities! :dunno: MPC works well, perhaps better than grit, but is similarly expensive... :frown:

Decided to order some Bocking-14 while sat in a meeting. Multitasking and making best use of time :) Will spend next 15 years trying to eradicate the other comfrey around the garden now!!

Planted out beetroot and tied in broad beans, which took a slight bartering last night. Whilst doing so I have noticed that the spinach I planted 2/3 weeks ago has bolted, I though the heat caused them to bolt. I will compost them when it dries up snd put Celariac in it’s place. Started lashing down , so I retreated to the GH snd started to put the supports up for the Tom’s. The weather looks as though it is changing for the better from midweek, so will aim to plant Toms, Cucumbers, Chillies/Peppers and Aubergines in GH next weekend.

Planted out some tomato plants. This year I bought them rather than growing from seed as the commercial guys' plants seem stronger than any I've started.

Planted my new Jackmanii Clematis. I haven't bought perennials in ages and so far this year, I've bought 4 plants - 2 ferns, 1 bleeding heart,1 columbine and also have 4 roots coming-3 more hardy geraniums, 1 Atlantis sedum. Too much fun!

And I added some more grommets to the front privacy cloth just to be sure when the winds blow, the fence does not get rocked.

And I'm removing two overhead dc fans from the greenhouses. They are making loud noises so their time must have come. New ones on the way and should be here next week and I'll have the wiring set to hook them up straight away.

Watered everybody. That's the only poorly part about having sunny days. No free water!

About 3 weeks ago you were still frozen, and you're planting out tomato plants, we have not been frozen since February and its still too cold to plant out tomatoes.
                                Its strange how climates work.
