Walnut the JRT does not bother them, in fact they bother him :lollol:

He is scared of them and two of them keep reminding him what happens if he gets too close :hehe:

Strange, I never thought of it before - do they only go out when there is a bit of snow and stay in when the weather is really bad? Do they have an covered (indoor) pen? :cnfs:

BTW, love the pics of them, especially the first two where they are still deciding whether to go out or not. :thmb:

They look nice and healthy, and their yard and house looks well kept. Good Job.

Our hens refuse to come out until I have swept a clear patch outside the hen house for them to walk on. Bust as they've feathered feet, I don't blame them!

I see you use hemcore/auboise as well. Lovely stuff I find.

They have their hen house which is a converted 6x4 shed, with a pop whole which is opened every morning and closed at dusk every night, whether they go out or not is entirely up to them, but they prefer it out. Their pen is entirely open, but have access to and under the shed, and under other outbuildings to shelter under

    Thank you :yho:

I use Auboise for most of my animal bedding and have done for years, yes it is a bit expensive but it's great :gnthb:

Oh wow, thank's for posting that! Domestic animals of all kinds going out in the snow are always fun.
And I always wanted to keep hens, not this time, but I do want to have hens sometime in the future, I mean I will not be travelling forever, no?
Yes, mind what grandpas say, they are a wicked bunch :D
My grandpa, who is quite a carachter, convinced my cousin that hens don't need a pen because they sleep on trees, and farmers have a hard time saving the eggs from falling from the branches. Not kidding.

Fingers crossed Ivory that you'll have a place sometime soon to be able to keep chickens. I wouldn't be without ours now, they are such a lovely additon to the garden...providing you keep them off the flower borders!
